Lol.  The best part of the day was watching her consistently outdrive my buddies by about 30 yards.  I hit it a little longer than them and could barely keep up with her.  She was tall for a woman, but rail thin.  They couldn't believe (nor could I) how far she hit it given her frame.  She was still in college at the time, but you could definitely tell that she had a bright professional future ahead of her.

 

Similar experience.

Friend and I were paired up with a single lady. Started mentioned we should not try to outgun her.

She was about 40 and slim, carried her bag.

First tee we were cautious and thankfully hit the middle. She hit a screamer - her game was driver,  and short iron or wedge on the par 4's.

We were outmatched.

Had a good time as she was quite nice and let us do our thing.

A few weeks later, saw her on the Big Break. recall her first name as Cindy.

Will never forget.

Probably a medium-bounce wedge. I have a MD3 Wide sole, but have had trouble getting hung up in heavier sand. So, I got a used MD4 S-grind, and it seems to move through the sand better - less flange to get hung up.

 

Two of our local pros told me they have gone to medium/S-grind SWs. More local courses are going to medium-heavy to heavy sand in bunkers.

 

If sand is really firm/crusty, or if it has soil pollution, learn how to pick the shot off the top with a PW.

 

2020 sand nightmare: got three birdies on approach shots out of fairway bunkers, but was a disaster in greenside bunkers.
