Software Engineer (QA Automation specifically).

I drove a tow truck for a year after the .com bubble burst (2002) and I went back to school.

<edit> I've been home since last March. I go into the office a few times a month just because. There is talk of going back full time, but 90% of what I do I can do from home. We did just get a new office, so there is that

I could use an experienced tow truck driver and mechanic.  Let me know if you’re bored with software.   Everyone around here has sold their tools to buy OxyContin or doesn’t have a drivers license.

I was offered the job because I do my own fabrication on my own projects and he wanted someone who could help maintain the fleet. I drove a very nice winch recovery truck with wheel lift. He taught me how to winch and my truck was rated for 40' RV's. We also had a UPS contract and I pulled them out plenty. But I frame hooked step vans and RV's all day.

I also had the lowest costs. There was a Jeep Grand Cherokee I didn't use dollies on. But that was my only oops. 🤣

The reality was I made the same driving truck as I did on unemployment and Bruce gave me medical insurance. I was always grateful and if I ever need a tow, I call Anderson's and then do the hookup myself.

Mistakes can happen easily and they can be pretty expensive.  That’s why you can’t have any old jerkoff in the truck.  Actually easier to tear up cars on a flatbed.  Bumpers, hooking a tie rod.

It’s a job like no other and I have respect for people that have done it at some point.  Definitely not for everyone.

I was fortunate to work for Bruce. I got a base salary and only got commission when on call. We didn't have incentive to pad a bill. When I met and talked to other drivers, some were 100% commission. They bragged about how they screwed some person or how they jacked up an insurance bill with false charges (road flares they didn't use, time cleaning up when none was done, added miles, etc). I was blown away and it made sense why we had the clients we did. We were in customer service, our goal was service to the customer, not how much we padded a bill with false charges.

Manager on a research/engineering contract, so I spend 25% of my time doing admin stuff for my team and the rest of my time trying to explain to our customers why they can't give us ham sandwich money and expect us to deliver caviar.

I’ve got an Italian customer right now I’d love to try to explain the same damn thing to.

Very cool, i'm based in NYC but am not surprised to hear that as we've been expanding our footprint in the empire state building.

Retired.

Career job was assembling airplanes.  Prior to that I did 4 years USAF.

I'm very grateful I was able to retire.  It makes all the OT and all those days I wanted to quit and do something else seem worth it.

I'm currently a Library Stock Assistant for my local city council and we're in a middle of a restructure which has been hell since I feel I'm in limbo not knowing whats going on. I've been in the Library service 12 years in September, I work Part time with two days off in the week so the perfect balance for me to play Golf and go fishing with my dad on them days off. When at work I'm serving the general public and looking after books and library materials. though its rewarding I've made a difference to someones life ^_^

HS Art teacher/coach for 23 years, starting 24 in a few weeks. I flirt with doing something else as cost of living keeps increasing relative to salary, but not sure that at my age I want to start all over again..
