Favorite golf polo/Q zip company with crisp collars?

Tired of my polo collars lookin like an undercooked strip of bacon. Might be because I only buy cheap polos. Anyone found any companies that keep the crisp collars after washes? Also, if you have any budget friendly recommendations.

Try ironing and starching the collars of your existing polos. I recently washed some hats that were filthy. Was concerned they'd loose their shape so I hit them with some homemade starch spray (simple to make and easy to find recipe on Google) and let them air dry. Stiffened them back up nicely and the ones that were worn out and already floppy before washing came out almost as good as new after starching.

Criquet has collar stays for a lot of their cotton polos. Travis Mathew has built in collar stays. That should help with the shape. I haven’t particularly noticed issues with Lululemon polos or g/fore polos. I think the better brands do tend to hold up. The collarstays in Criquet and Travis Mathew will

help them keep the right shape.

Unfortunately I don't know of too many "budget friendly" brands that produce shirts with substantial weight collars. Doubling the fabric and the weight in them is what will keep the collar from rolling without having to use collar stays. 

 

You'll usually find those in brands like Peter Millar, Grayson, and etc.

If you are interested in a crisp collar try a polo from Rhoback.  You likely aren't going to find a good collar from something that's budget friendly.  That said, if the collar lasts longer you might end up spending less in the long run.

Have Holderness & Bourne and Rhoback.  Both great collars.  Rhoback collar is slightly larger.  I give the edge to Holderness & Bourne.

Do you machine wash them or take them to the cleaners to make the collar last longer?

I'm not the person you were asking this but I machine wash all my golf shirts with the collar flipped up on the delicate cycle and I air dry them on a rack.  I have no trouble with collars for the most part.

Machine wash on normal cycle and dry on low temp. If you're buying shirts with a decent collar you shouldn't have to worry about machine washing them. 

 

I wouldn't suggest taking anything to the cleaners that doesn't require it to be dry cleaned. The chemicals they use (even for the simple laundry service) at the cleaners is really damaging to the longevity of your clothes.

Holderness & Bourne makes the best collar in golf.  I have shirts that are several years old that have been through the wash a lot and the collars still look brand new.

I don't care much for any of their styles, but Holderness & Bourne has the best collar of any golf shirt I've seen or worn.

I picked up 3 Holderness & Bourne shirts over the winter and am waiting for the weather here in MN to heat up so I can try them. I will say the collars do appear to be excellent.

 

Most of my other shirts are Peter Millar Crown Crafted and those collars are also exceptional.

 

I've owned Criquet shirts but my issue with them, like Linksoul, is they are mainly cotton. Not good for humid summer rounds. Great shirt for off the course though. And yes, the Criquet shirts have the collar stays and work well.

The Johnnie-O Prep-Formance polos are a nice weight and the collars hold their shape really well.  Very similar to the Peter Millar Summer Comfort line.

I also vote for Holderness.

 

Regardless of brand, it is usually a knit collar that will “bacon” vs one with a self-collar.

 

Just stay away from the knit collar.

Thanks to the folks on this thread that suggested H&B...I've now spent more money on some polos that I don't need. Picked up 2 H&B polos and can't wait to try them out.
