C Taper Lite vs. $ Taper lite - what FLEX ?

I’ve read a bunch of threads about these two, but no answer to MY question.

I just purchased a set of ZX5’s that have C taper lites installed in R flex.  Played one round with them and have Zero complaints.....EXCEPT I hate the feel of C tapers.

I’m thinking of having them rebuilt with a set of $ Taper lites.

should I stay with R flex or move up to a stiff flex in the $ Taper. 6 iron swing speed is 81-84, but a quick and steep aggressive transition into the ball.

 Thanks in advance!

  • Duffer222 changed the title to C Taper Lite vs. $ Taper lite - what FLEX ?

I have similar SW with my 6i and I was fitted for the C-Taper Lites (CTL) and later the $-Taper Lites ($TL). My transition is not aggressive though.

Both in R Flex.

$TL are noticeably smoother feeling and I like them more than the CTLs. The $TLs also spin a bit more.

I have the regulars for 2 reasons: my dispersion was smaller with the R's (like lasers), and my spin numbers were better with the R's. I had a lower launch, lower flight block tendency with the S's.

I also felt that the $TLs in S lost some of the smooth feel I originally fell for in the R's (stock in 2019 Cobra Forged Tecs). Played Rs ever since.

Just for ref:

Woods are all S

Hybrids and irons are R, and

Wedges are S.

It's how I was fitted. Works really well for me.

Thanks!  I suppose I really need to try both in the same head. I think the $tapers are going to meet the “feel” that I’m looking for.

I appreciate your answer!

One more thing of note: The Cobra's use .370 shafts which are 15g heavier than the .355 version needed in some other brand/models. Depending on the head you are testing you may feel differences.

For instance, I love the $TLs in the Forged Tecs (.370), but not at all in the p770s (.355).

Now that is interesting.  I’ll be installing into .355 heads.  I figured the only difference in the two would be a heavier .370 shaft, but the ability to tip trim them to an exact frequency you wanted, which I guess would change the feel.
