Those pings are great clubs only thing I would caution you on is the yellow Dyla grips. Yellow used to their code for oversized grips. If you’re a big guy probably not an issue but if you have normal to smaller size hands could introduce a swing that’s hard to square up. Welcome to this beautiful addiction.

Can I ask if you hit the Eye 2's before buying them?  If so, and you liked them, excellent.  Enjoy.

I recently hit my father's Eye 2's vs several different sets of newer irons.  The Eye 2's were pretty harsh compared to the newer irons.

Nice, great setup for not much cash. My only advice would be to take a lesson or three to make sure your swing is on the right path. If you’re a beginner, fixing things now is a lot easier than fixing it later.

You can’t go wrong with what you got.  If you decide to move on from the eye 2’s you will get what you paid out of them so long as you take care of them.  Don’t get discouraged if you are hitting your clubs not as long as other people.  It has much more to do with the lofts than any technology.

welcome to the sport and enjoy!

A few thoughts:

1) Very good deal on all that equipment, as others have said you got a good price on the Eye2's and the rest of the stuff basically for free. Nice.

2) Of the choices you had, you picked the only one with a cool retro vibe. Everybody that's been around a while loves Ping Eye2.

3) Swap out the grips as soon as possible. Those are going to be slick and uncomfortable due to age and also slightly oversized.

4) The guy who said they are "players cavity backs" is right. Compared to most of the clubs on your original list they have sharp leading edges, narrow soles and minimal bounce. Which isn't to say they are hard to hit but they aren't max-forgiveness either.

Bingo.  Eye2's were a nice choice 30 years ago.  And yes, a good ball striker can play anything, so I'm sure there is a scratch out there that still loves them somewhere.

I would strongly consider Ping I5's if you are looking semi vintage Ping.  Waaaay more playable for most people I would imagine.  Better sole, less sharp leading edge, more bounce, better feel, etc.

Eye 2 irons are a good choice.  As others have pointed out, if you decide to move on from them, you should be able to get your money back from their sale.

Only thing I see is using some used up Titliest golf balls. Grab yourself some brand new golf balls that can run about 25 bucks for two dozen. You will probably get the same performance if not better than the used stuff. Only reason I say it is because a lot of them are pond balls.

Eye 2 would definitely fall into players irons, if introduced today.....they are quite demanding compared with other offerings in today's standards

So these are not okay for hitting into a practice net?

You nailed it. Most of all, though, just have fun. Don’t beat yourself up when you hit a terrible shot. It’s gonna happen. But that feeling of flushing an iron shot with those Eye 2s will keep you wanting to come back for more. Best advice I can give is grab a couple lessons and start beating balls any chance you get. Welcome to the best/worst game ever invented😉😂

That is a great deal. The eye 2's are timeless and if you don't end up liking them, you can recoup your money. I would recommend trying a long softer ball like a srixon super soft. They are $25 or less a dozen and will feel great.  Higher end balls can feel really harsh on slight miss hits, much worse than a soft ball like those.

Yup...perfect.

Get some new balls too, and see if you can tell the difference 😉

Its the archer, not the arrow...as long as those Eye2's are ballpark close to what you need, you'll be fine.

-make a stand/holder for your cell phone and slo-mo capture yourself once in awhile at the range and your net.

-buy some foot powder spray and use it all up at the range and your net...make purpose mis-hits too, so you can ID them by feel, sting, sound, trajectory, etc...

To quote a friend, "a golf game and golf skills must be paid in effort". Enjoy it all.

+1 on the grips. You can replace those for very little $ and your Eye 2's will play like they were new. Have fun & welcome to the fraternity!
