Classic Golf Ball experts needed...

I recently found these in a bag I picked at an estate sale.  Hopefully someone can provide some info.  The first ball with the oddly placed #14 is noticeably smaller than other golf balls.   Pics 1&2 are of the smaller ball.  Pics 3&4 are the same ball and the last pic is the 3rd ball.  Thanks for the info.

Slazenger B51 was their premium ball in the UK. Same quality as their superb balata balls with a more durable cover. Must be an old 1.62 inch so pre-1982. Made in same factory as Dunlop. Fantom is Taiwanese? No idea with the Scrambler.

Yep, the smaller ball is the old English ball. Don't know about the Fantom ball, but the script is Hangul (Korean) and you're holding it upside down😅

OK, it doesn't. I think the word in brackets is "Ju" or "Joo", which is a family name, but then I don't know why it should be in brackets.

 

Also, the "F" of Fantom is exactly the same as the "F" of Fila, the sportswear maker, which is now a South Korean company.

Strictly speaking it's not 'the English' ball, it's the ball spec. for areas covered by the R&A. That would have been continental Europe, GB + Eire, S. Africa and the Antipodes I believe. Don't know about Japan.

True, I was being rather lazy calling it the "English ball". I usually call it the "smaller ball", but the OP had already ascertained it was smaller, so I was groping for another term.

 

I think Japan is covered by the R&A as well, so the small ball was used here, and I still see them come up for auction a fair bit, or on sale in old "recycle" shops.

I didn't mean to appear pedantic. It's always worth reminding golfers of the World that, geographically speaking and at that time, the R&A had more influence globally than did the USGA. As such they are primarily responsible for the equipment performance debacle of the late 20th Century.

The USGA covers the USA & Mexico. The R&A the rest of the world. They share the same code of rules.
