Roswell Area membership

Recommended Posts

Looking for some feedback on whether to join either Roswell CC or Horseshoe bend. I have a wife and two kids so wanting something for them on top of the golf. I think both of these offer that. I play 2-3 times a week and practice couple times a week as well. Pretty familiar with pricing on both and wondering if Horseshoe is worth the extra money. If anyone has played these courses and has some feedback or is a member there that’d be great. Hoping to make a decision shortly. Setting up a time for a prospective round in next couple of weeks with both clubs. Thank you!

How serious is your practice?  How much is layout determining which course you join?

1. Horseshoe has a practice area and facilities that are far superior to Roswell.

2. Horseshoe has a better layout.  Also, if homes on every hole are a problem then Roswell is out.  Horseshoe has a few holes with homes, only 5 or so with homes in play, they are in play on almost every hole except the par 4's at Roswell.

I have really no info on which is better for your family or for kiddos as I never made it that far with them.

I am surprised that either have any availability for members.  Most courses in the same ballpark area as far as initiation and monthly dues are completely full and have in some cases doubled and tripled their initiation and are charging a big chunk just to get on the waiting list.

@driveandputtmachine thanks for giving the feedback. Practice is huge for me. I love going up to my club now and hitting on the range and working on short game. I’m at Berkeley Hills CC now so definitely don’t want a downgrade on layout. It’s a fun and challenging course so looking for something similar. I have also play at Roswell CC recently and it was pretty trash honestly. Rough shape.

Only leaving Berkeley for the family honestly. They have a great golf community.

I think Horseshoe will fill up soon. They said they are bringing in new members all the time. Still no waiting list though.

I haven't played Berkley, but a quick scan on google maps and the practice area there doesn't appear that great.  Horseshoe would appear to be a big upgrade there.   I used to live in the Dunwoody area and would recommend Dunwoody CC over all of them, except their practice facilities are probably a bit worse than Berkley's appear to be.   However the golf course and layout since the Bergin re-design a few years back are excellent.  The range is under three bills deep from the mats at the back and is very narrow the farther out you get.  Limited flight range balls blow, but to be honest unless the course has really nice range balls, you are not working on distance control very much anyway.

Horseshoe has two holes that I qualify as quirky, Dunwoody doesn't have any.

@ND2005 yeah it’s close by. There membership is currently full but it doesn’t offer good family stuff at all. Berkeley CC and Rivermont seem very comparable. I need something with a little more family focus.

Would love to hear your thoughts on HB’s course if you play it. I’m in a similar position, but never been out there and haven’t had serious conversations with their membership director (I did get details on the initiation, monthly dues, etc.). I like Rivermont, but it gets a bit tight in places and when you’re wild off the tee like I am, that’s not a good recipe.

I think your decision is made. Pay the extra money for Horseshoe Bend. When the wife and kids are happy with it, it wont matter. I had this revelation when i went from Berkeley to Indian Hills.

Long long time since I played HB (I grew up in Roswell area but haven't been out on HB in probably over a decade). I liked it but can't comment on current conditions or any recent changes.

Rivermont only has a couple holes I would call "tight" (3, 7, 12 tee) but you have to know which side is the safe miss on a lot of holes.

This is the exact reason I went from Pinetree to Indian HIlls.   Pinetree is a much better golf course, but the extras for the wife and kids made me move, well that and how much easier it was pre-covid to get to IH from work than it was to get to Pinetree.

Hi all, watching this thread with great interest. We just signed a contract on a new home in Indian Hills, so will be calling about getting on the waiting list. Hopefully will see some of y’all out there.

Good luck, last I heard we had over 70 people on the waiting list.  Tee times were in short supply during the height of the pandemic as many people on a restricted budget were playing more golf because walking was open 7 days a week all day long.  Pre Covid, carts only before 2:00pm every day.   Now carts only before 2 or 3 on weekends, so expect to see tee times easier to come by in the morning on weekends.

No one will be leaving as you can still walk all you want during the week.  They have increased dues, done some work on the course and replacing of cart paths, but no one in any numbers has left as of yet.
