Bridgestone XS vs TM TP 5 2021

I currently play the previous gen TP5 pix but I am almost out was hoping to get the buy 3 get 1  on the 2021 TP5s but the sale ended early and I missed out.  instead I was able to get the Bridgestone player pack which 3 dozen balls after coupon for $90.  I went with the Bridgestone XS cause Im looking for spin around on the greens and not sure the X at 98 compression will give me that but at 86 compression for XS Im worried it is to soft for me seeing im used to the TP5 and 90.  I really liked the TP5 but couldn't pass up on the price I got for the Bridgestone Xs would I be better off keeping the Bridgestone's or paying more for the TP5's at $48/dozen

any info would be appreciated

I seem to do this every year when I need new golf balls

Both the TP5 and Tour B XS are pretty similar, they're softer than average balls that give you quite a bit of spin off the wedge. I believe the TP5 had slightly more spin with half wedges for me, but honestly not enough for you to notice a difference without looking at numbers and the XS spun slightly less and launched slightly higher off the tee (again not enough to notice without looking at numbers).

Either of them will be just fine, the only real differences you're likely to notice in real-life use is possibly cover durability, but I didn't play the XS on the course enough to accurately judge it. The TP5 cover was a bit more durable for me than the 2021 ProV1x I'm playing now, but most golfers will lose them before that becomes an issue. Both have lasted me 18+ holes just fine, even if they look ugly by the end of it, and there weren't visibly noticeable performance changes even if there likely were some differences in the numbers.

Ball to ball comparisons are largely difficult because the differences in such similar balls get lost in the noise from the swings of even good golfers, so honestly the biggest difference is going to happen in the 6 inches between your ears. If you're confident in your golf ball (and golf game in general) it'll save you more strokes from not second guessing yourself than if you used a ball that was very slightly different. Pick a high compression or lower compression tour-quality ball and stick with it, they all have trade-offs and they're all good enough to win professional tournaments.

2020 BXS is a phenomenal ball. I switched from 2019 Z star (88 compression) and it’s made a marked improvement on my game.  Long off the tee and deadly with scoring clubs. Best ball I’ve ever used for greenside shots. Tiger plays BXS when TaylorMade is his club company. Jason Day immediately switched from TP5 to BXS when he became a free agent.

If you really prioritize spin around the greens and are willing to accept a fairly high spin ball with your irons and full wedges then I think you can simplify the search and just do Tour B XS. If there is any ball that spins more inside 150 yards I've not seen it myself.

I also found the XS spun less off the driver than the TP5 and was more durable. I LOVE the feel of it, but the added distance off the driver with the B X is why I play it instead of the XS.

I don't necessarily prioritize spin around the green but that is an area im looking to improve on from 100 yards in is getting the ball to stop quicker and I normally don't to much spin on irons or full wedges into a green to get to spin back or check really quick and I have a higher ball flight already so its more that than spin to get the ball to stay on greens.

For me, nothing spins more or stops quicker inside 100yds than the XS.

I think you will be VERY pleased with what the XS gives you. If you want more spin around the green you will love the XS. It is a little softer but IMO it’s just a better ball all around than the TP5.

It will spin a couple hundred rpm’s more off the tee with lower trajectory. But it’s the best I’ve ever played inside 100yds. Might give up 5-10yds off the tee tops.

Tiger signed with Bridgestone before Taylormade. Also many high profile free agent signings are more influenced by money than a particular product’s performance.

I bought some of the BXS to play this year and compare to the BX.  The XS spins more overall for me.  I like that around the greens, but not off the tee.  On well hit balls I was losing 10-20 yards off the tee and the added spin around the green doesn't offset that for me.

Did you find the loss of yards from increased spin helped with accuracy and dispersion?

Love the tour b xs (all three are great) Very long, damn good in the wind, spin well on the greens, and they are pretty expensive. Fave ball. A++

The tp5 series is JP’s second fave. Great spin, long, good wind ball, not super durable, probably best feeling, expensive. A+

Prov1. He has used them forever. A very good ball that is no longer the best ball in any of the categories.Too expensive for what you get. B+

Chromesoft. Starting to warm to these. Wonderful feel. Pretty good ball. B+
