Any Mizuno 921 Tour Long Term Reviews?

Hello All,

 

T100 Player here.  The T100 are great no complaints but I want to try something different and my heart is always with Mizuno.

Looking for some long term reviews here.

Feel / Forgiveness / Distance / ....

 

Any comparisons to T100 or T100s?

 

I love the loft set and included Gap wedge.  Also want to give STaper a go as well.

I played the 100's and they are fantastic irons. I now have 921T and am not having any remorse. 

Feel edges towards Mizuno, forgiveness also goes to 921T, the 100's might be a couple yards longer. 

Ball flight is better for me with the Mizuno. I get a little lower trajectory with enough spin to hold greens easily. I like the 921's more. The 100's are shorter and thinner top line to my eye, might need callipers to measure though

If wear is a concern, I notice more chatter on the 921 because the finish just shows it more, the metal seems softer too. 

Overall, I would go 921 all day over the Titleist because no up charge shafts and grips alongside the other pro's. Although, the T100 are superb.

I was fitted for mine, and tried everything in the category including the T100s. Mizuno looks and feels incredible, and I really don’t have any issues with the long irons. A lot of super good irons in this category this year, but the 921T were the best. I’ve had mine about 3 months.

This is promising to hear... I've had my T100s for a few months now coming from really old MP-60s and I really do miss the soft feeling of Mizuno's. I'm also currently debating whether to make the switch to JPX 921 Tour. I'm having some serious gapping issues with the T100s. 

 

I'd love to hear more from those who have experience from both irons.

How do the 921Ts wear? It’s hard to see all the scratches looking good or blending into a matte finish as well as they do into chrome.

coming from 919 HM so will be a big jump in terms of forgiveness but my striking has improved and am looking forward to more stopping power on the greens

Interested to hear more about this as well.  Played a set of 919F last year for a bit and didn't like the gapping in the short clubs.

The 921 tour irons feel and look great in my opinion. A place where I go has a trackman and a Mizuno Demo cart, so I've hit the 7 iron a bunch. I've also hit T100 a bunch on a trackman with my pro as well.  I would say it is around the same forgiveness of a T100..maybe a touch less in the longer clubs. To me, they feel softer than a T100. Lines seem a touch straighter than T100 as well but not as straight as say a ZX7. 

 

I'm waiting on a set I ordered with 921 HMP 4-5... Forged 6-9..Tour PW and GW w/ $ Taper S+. I probably could have gone 8-GW with Tour but the gapping from Forged to Tour at 7-8 is odd on how it affects the bounce of each club. My OCD wouldn't permit it. 

 

Forgot to mention.. I hit the T100 and JPX 921 Tour the same distance..

Seems like the Mizunos are softer which is no surprise. I am definitely going to give those 921Ts a try.

Life long Titleist iron player (several AP2 models and DCI) but had to get my Mizuno JPX fix because I loved the looks so settled on a set of the 919 Tours last summer. Older model but probably not that different than 921. Tours aren't as forgiving as the T100 and they dig and spin a little more so not as long. I think the Tours look better but the new look finish doesn't hold up to that look very long. Feel is a wash. They both feel good but I was expecting better from the Mizuno with all the hype I read about for years about their feel. Mizuno maybe a little softer feel but mishits certainly more harsh feeling. I'd give the Mizuno another shot in the future if they improve the turf interaction.

5 months deep with the 921 tours and I have been really happy with them. They just do what they are designed to do. I do not think you will get anything other than these are great feeling irons when well struck, mizuno softs feels there and they let you know when you do not catch the middle but are not overly penal for slight misses off centre. Hit one out off the toe or heel and no dice there big loss of distance and that the horrible feeling that you get in the hands when get get well away from the centre of the bat.  Overall these are not game changer irons but they very consistent distance wise and I would say are no longer or shorter than other irons in the category.  I really like the fact they have more traditional lofts and tend to cater towards the better ball striker and not focused on distance. They can be worked fade/draw when needed and even a muppet like myself can hit little baby draws with these things.  I can from playing 2014 Apex pro's to these and tried a few other offerings along the way and ended up with these.  I will say to Callaway's credit that the apex pro were great feeling and strong performing irons.  The feel Mizuno give i would not say is better but I will say is different.  Is different better? I am not sure either way on that one.  The build quality has been great and I am seeing not overt iron wear and they just look minty. If you are on edge then jump off as I think these are great clubs and perform as  they should.  If the Apex 21 pro's had of been released when I decided to get a new set of irons there is every chance that they would be in my bag right now after having great success with the 2014 model.

Possibly, but the new Apex Pro is more like a P770 (hollow-body players distance iron) than they are like the 2014 Apex Pro - which would probably be more akin to the JPX 921 Tour you have now.

If you have a chance to hit them off grass, do that. I've long played Titleist, had a set of T100, but loved the look of the 921T. I went to a fitting, loved the feel of them, so I bought a set. On course it was completely different, the sole just didn't work for me, personally. They look & feel great, and if the sole works for you, perform wonderfully, my friend enjoys them very much.

921 Tour > T100

 

Better feel, better looking and more forgiving than they look. Turf interaction is also very solid!

FWIW, I had tried the 919 Tour and much preferred the T100 because of the turf interaction.  For my swing, at that time, I get like the T100 moved through the ground very easily, and the 919 Tour was grabbing the ground and pulling out divots.

 

My 921 Tours just came in and after 1 round and 1 range session - the camber work that Mizuno has done really allows the club head to move through the ground very well.

 

From my perspective, there is no real difference against the T100.

 

As per the post above, the JPX feels better than the Titleist.   
 

The forgiveness Is a wash far as I’m concerned.

 

The 921 Tour look great behind the ball.  Happy I picked them up.
