Best Driving Iron of All Time

Nothing beats a good DI, nice thread!  I played a Ping Rapture DI for about 5 years and would’ve agreed it was the best ever...  until I hit a PXG 0311.  That club is amazing.  I don’t need easy to elevate (nor should anyone with a DI).  I want low penetrating bombs with as much forgiveness as possible.  The PXG 0311 is that club.

I nominate my current deuce -- Mizuno MP-20 HMB @16 degrees w/ Ventus Blue 9x HB shaft. Average 2-iron distance but with great consistency and feel.

I have the same set up... with a different club. U510 1 iron/16 degrees with Blue Velocore 9X HB. It's a wonderful set up - the loft, forgiveness, and shaft work really well for me.

I'd love to try the MP20 HMB but haven't found the 2 iron anywhere to demo.

Every time I play with a new member they are amazed with my P790 2i.  I am not a big hitter (around 90mph with 7i) but off the tee I can get that 2i up to 230 carry plus roll almost always passing most 3 woods of my playing partners and sometimes drivers. I am hitting 140 ball speeds on my GC2/HMT.  DG105 steel shaft, not graphite. To date I have not found another driving iron that produces the same ball speeds from center contact.  I don't have the game to use it efficiently off the deck though but off a tee it is a weapon.

Depends on handicap, but for someone like me who floats between 10-15 handicap, I absolutely love my Titleist U510 2 Iron. I'm not a long hitter and have always hated hybrids, but it is an absolute cannon (220+ Off the tee) and really forgiving. Probably a bit of a high ball flight and spinny for low handicappers but it's been a revelation for me.

Is that the first or second generation P790? They are definitely bombers though, either one.

The Ventus Blue HB 9x shaft is so great. Just a perfect fit for me. My favorite Ventus shaft. The only issue is that this combination takes the swing weight down quite a lot so I've had to add a little lead tape to the head of my 4i and 2i.

Just got the Srixon u85 and they are amazing!  Very easy to hit, pretty cheap right now, offers nice distance.  The only downside is the big chunk on the back of the iron.  If you can get over that, you'll have a great time using it.

Forgot to add, I've owned the Mizuno Fli-Hi, Mizuno HMB, Titleist u510, Titlesit 712u... with that said, I think the Srixon u85 is the easiest utility iron to hit

I have had my fair share as well. Played the g410 3i today with Tensie and plays great but like a hockey stick.

I has a 712u years ago and loved it should have kept it.

Also had great times with Cut Muscle Flihi and the MMC FliHi 2i I loved even with a Modus 120s.

But when I had a set of z545’s and the 3i went just as far as my mmc Flihi 2i I sold it.

I did get a couple Hogan Hi long irons, 2-3-4 and they are awesome. Players irons, so don’t expect forgivness. Your game has to be on and wished I played that today instead.

Gonna look for a p790 or UDI now.

oh and the Gapers SUCK! I had low, med and hi, they were all horrible and useless. Sold the 2i low and gave away the 3hi, lol

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.
Treat people the way you want to be treated

I haven't noticed any swing weight weirdness with the U510. I might have to investigate.

I love the Ventus Blue HB. The 9X feels very much like the KBS Tour 120S shafts I have in my irons, which is nice. I didn't get along very well with the Ventus Blue in driver (too much spin) and there wasn't a black in my preferred weight/flex available to test, so I went with the RDX Black instead. But the Ventus... yum!

Rapture DI is cast but don't let that fool you.  I believe they only made them a couple years.  Went to the Crossover, which I think has more offset.  Not the best out of the rough or bad lies, but awesome off the tee, fairway and on windy days.

What do you think about the crossovers?

Srixon Z 545 3 iron 20° for me is the perfect blend of distance, feel, and looks - both GI and player-like at the same time without being too chunky or intimidating from the top.  Confidence inspiring.  Still shiny and angular in the bag.  Wouldn't replace it with anything new!

I have not hit the Crossover.  They have a similar look, but I think a little more offset.  Hear good things and they have been on the market for a while, so must be solid.

Yea i wanted to try the crossover. But Ima get my hands on the Rapture DI first.
