Epic Max LS worth trying?

osubuckeyes691

Recommended Posts

I had another full session last night testing this years new models vs a Ping G410 and an Epic flash SZ.

Epic Max had far more spin than anything else

Max LS was lower spin, but smash factor was down for me

Speed was the best fit but I couldn't notice any extra forgiveness over the Flash SZ and the look / feel / numbers from SZ were better for me

The G410 is still the forgiveness option - I'm struggling to find anything this year to displace either as main or backup and man I'm trying!

Last few drivers go M5, Sim, Sim 2 and Max LS 9* dropped to 8* with weight in toe position.

i would never have thought I’d end up in a Cally driver…but this is hands down the best driver I’ve ever hit.  Did not agree with the Sim2 at all and traded it, like a true wx’r on a whim without testing.  Sometimes we get lucky!  Paired with Tensei 1K 60s this driver is a beast.  Very forgiving with mid-high launch low spin bombs.  I keep telling myself there is no need for the Epic Speed 🔷🔷🔷

I just recently was going back and forth between these two. The Max LS was 10.5* and my Tsi3 is 10*. Did multiple simulator sessions, range sessions, and tried them out on the course. At those lofts the Max LS launched a little higher and was a little more forgiving (not losing as much ball speed on mishits). My best shots were with the Tsi3 (ball speed, carry, and total distance) but it's not quite as forgiving as the Max LS. I honestly would have been happy with either but I ended up going with the Tsi3 mainly because my miss with the Max LS was going right where I don't go right near as much with the Tsi3. Plus the Tsi3 just feels better to me (one of the best feeling drivers off the face I've ever had) and my dispersion as far as left to right was better.

I continue to find the MAX LS to be the best driver I’ve had in overall performance. It fits me perfect for a blend of controlled spin and forgiveness. Have a Ventus Red 7S tipped 3/4 of an inch in it and it is so good. Only head I’ve hit that can stay with it is the Mavrik Sub Zero, which is the longest driver I’ve hit. But I am more consistent with the Max LS. I put 3g of hot melt in the toe and it has the perfect sound.

I've had mine in 9* since April.  I had the stock Mitsubishi MMT 7x shaft.  This coming off a Ping G410+ w/Ventus Blue.

I really like the Epic Max LS...a lot.  The Mitsubishi MMT shaft wasn't all bad.  It felt a smidge too stiff for me in the handle.  So I got this in the Ventus Blue and absolutely love it.  As good as I was hitting it, hitting it even better now.  I tend to prefer the Epic Max LS over the G410+ because my mis-hit tends to be low on the face and I'll hit a very spinny ball and the ball will go nowhere.  With the Epic Max LS it's really not a problem.

Hit a drive today 295, uphill on soft ground and into a 2-club wind.  It's very long and very forgiving.

The Max LS combined with the Tensei Pro Orange has made the game a lot fun for me. I struggled for years with a pull hook and thought I would never have a consistent tee game. I hit a big ole hook with it on the second hole my last round and was genuinely surprised watching it cross into the adjacent fairway. There is a busy road on the right side of that hole so I lost focus and pulled one. I have been so good with it lately that I did not realize I can still hook it off the planet. I do not find it to be as low spin as the Sub Zero models and have no trouble hitting a high ball when needed. The forgiveness compared to the SZ is HUGE!! It truly is a MAX style head and the lower spin does not detract from the forgiveness aspect. 🦄

I’ll be able to test my EF SZ against the max ls in a couple weeks. I love my EF SZ distance, I just lose so much due to forgiveness. Will see what happens.

Have hit and owned them almost all of them (thank god for 90-day returns!), except the Radspeed. I would say that they're all in the neighborhood for ballspeed, with these 3 being pretty much at the top.

I had the Tsi3 higher in ballspeed than the MAX LS, but not by much. I think the Max LS is one of the most forgiving lowspin offerings released this year. It was nearly point and shoot straight no matter what. It's not the lowest spin offering, but definitely enough for me. The Ping G425 LS may be more forgiving, but I didn't like the weighting or sound. Radspeed had inconsistent ballspeeds for me, on offcenter hits, but it was pretty hot on center strikes.

One factor I didn't realize was as big, the deeper face on the Tsi3 (vs flat and wide on the Tsi2 or Max LS) actually helps for my ball striking pattern. I find that I'm tighter horizontally with more variance high and low. Having that deeper, "narrower" face helps quite a bit.

Hit the max ls paired with ad XC at the range a lot this week.  REally enjoying the performance.  Early impression is it performs like a less fade bias g410 lst- much more neutral cg and an awesome blend of forgiving low spin. Very straight ball flight and as long as anything.   My only complaint is the heel appears weird visually from address.   It almost gives if the appearance of offset.  I know there isn’t any offset obviously but there’s something there to my eye.  Anyone else noticed it this?

got out to the range today. RDX blue 70g 6.0. On my EF SZ (9*) i had to play at -1 to keep spin reasonable. on Max LS(9*), couldnt get any height on it at -1 despite hitting high on the face. Bumped it up to +1 and magic happened. This driver is 1" longer than my EF SZ and i was way more consistent. Will see how it performs on course. It is clearly more forgiving. Had some heel strikes that stayed on line, albeit short.

I got my first Driver fitting last week at TXG, and got fitted for the Epic Max LS w/ a Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 shaft.

To say I was struggling with Drivers this year would be an understatement…this is my 7th Driver, I lost all confidence in the Tee box, and couldn’t hit a fairway to save my life.

After practicing and playing with the Max LS this past week, along with a couple of swing tweaks, I finally broke through today at the range and got my confidence back! I was finally hitting the 270 yd + bombs that I was able to hit last year, and this Driver makes me feel like swinging away and having fun in the Tee box again! Thanks to TXG and to Callaway, the Max LS is the real deal and the best Driver I’ve ever hit!! 🚀🚀

Same experience I had. Got fit into the Max LS with a heavier shaft (Ventus Red 7S tipped 1.25 inches) and it has been a revelation. Much easier to keep it in play.

Isn’t it amazing? At my lowest point this season I played 7 rounds in a row hitting less than Driver.

Golf is so much more fun, and much “easier” when you’re able to hit Driver and keep it in play! Loving the Max LS and won’t make the mistake of replacing it just to chase something new and shiny next year.
