Modus 105s vs 105x softstepped - Coming from KBS Tour S/DG S300

Title says it all.

 

Ordering a custom Zx5/Zx7 combo and going with a lighter shaft. Getting old and 120-130g feels little too heavy for me.

 

Tried 105S at a pro shop and liked the smoothness of the shaft but wished they would be tag heavier.

 

Would 105x soft stepped still give me the smooth feeling?

Everybody is different so take this with a very coarse grain of salt...

 

I'm not terribly shaft sensitive - especially with iron shafts.  I have played DG R300, S300, and X100 basically interchangeably in the past.

 

However, for me, there is a noticeable "knee in the curve" between Modus 105-S and Modus 105-X.  There is no way a single soft step would change the difference I feel with that shaft.

 

I am quite happy with Modus 105-S.  It takes a while to get used to the lighter weight.  I went through some lighter weight shaft ho'ing over a couple of previous seasons to get there.  In retrospect, I don't believe I've found the ideal shaft in Modus 105.  Rather, I've simply gotten used to lighter weight being the norm.

 

A common 'crutch' used by folks initially making the move to lighter weight shafts is to bump up swingweight by 2 or 3 points.  The heavier feeling head seems to compensate for the overall lighter weight.

 

Good luck.  Modus 105 is fantastic.

The Modus 105x felt miles stiffer than the Modus 105s. 

 

it’s the only shaft going from stiff to X-stiff, I even noticed a change, but it was substantial. Felt like a different shaft. 

 

I was looking to move away from DG X100 and found the Modus 105X as hard to load as the X100. 
 

A lot of these things are subjective and swing dependent. 

I have a slower tempo, an easy’ish transition and a mid-late release with a 7 iron swing speed of 93mph and I went with the Modus 105s because the 105x felt like way too much work to load.

 

I know PX get a bad wrap for being too harsh, but in the right flex, I found them to feel great. A 5.0 or 5.5 PX feels great for me, a 6.5 feels like rebar. That’s how I felt going from the Modus 105s to 105x..... maybe not 6.5 stiff, but 6.0-6.2 stiff to me anyways
