Yes part of a team sport. With one of the loneliest positions in sports where everyone is looking at you. A position that has a very similar mindset. Are you saying that other guys in team sports should never have anxiety issues? Issues being away from family and friends? Issues with finances? Personal issues at home? Issues with their performance?

If I had to guess, sounds like you were a pitcher. Or kicker. I know NFL kickers love their golf

Well, Kicker is definitely the loneliest position in sports--And i would know LOL. I never made millions doing it but was one of the top rated recruits at the position some years ago. The guy ranked after me in the scouting reports the year i came out made 30-40M in the league. But hey, what can you do. I have a lot of "likes" on GolfWRX --Things worked out just fine for MtlJeff

On topic -- Everyone is different. Wolff is 22. I didn't even get my first corporate job until i was 23 and i wasn't very mature then. He seems like a genuine guy and i wish him the best. He obviously must have some mental toughness to talk about stuff like this, and then go out and contend at the toughest tournament there is

Some guys don't talk about their problems and it works for them, others do. Wolff doesn't seem fake. I hope he has a nice career and figures things out. World would be a worse place if no one developed personally and professionally after age 22.

I’ve heard the guys that actually need the helmets don't even consider the kickers part of the team. 😂

They don't and that's what i always hated about it. I gave up basketball and soccer to kick because it gave me the best chance of playing pro sports. I have always regretted it and i was miserable kicking. it's hard to go from all-city basketball and playing for the provincial soccer team to getting told by backup offensive guards that you aren't an athlete.

I wouldn’t argue with anyone saying kicker, goalie or pitcher is the loneliest position in sports… And “But hey, what can I do. I have a lot of likes on GolfWRX!”. Funny! Think of all the NFL kickers making 30-40M that can’t say that! 😉 😂

I've got nothing to complain about at the end of the day. I enjoy telling the story to be honest, i'd like to meet the kicker i'm talking about one day just so i can tell him how often i mention him in my stories of past glory.

I've done fine. But as Mr Burns once said : "i'd trade it all for a little more"

Sounds like it's you not thinking it all the way through.  Sure have the conversation about mental health or unhappiness, please don't try to bottle it up, but what comes after this conversation?  You either realize your current situation isn't so bad and you continue about your life or you make a change in an attempt to find what you are looking for.  That change may not work and the process starts over again.

Just getting to this debate but what do you mean?   I think taking off two months off in the middle of the PGA season shows a pretty big willingness to change his situation so to speak.

And, then, instead of just staying silent and coming back, my take is he thought it might help other people by speaking up to reduce the stigma on seeking help for mental health issues.   Just to be clear, are you saying he shouldn't have talked about it and stayed silent on it?

Sounds like you went straight to the last page and made that comment, but I quoted what I said yesterday so you don't have to go backwards.

Fair enough. But, again, he did make changes/effort to address it.  I don't know what you think the two months off was about?  Maybe I am misunderstanding your point.

He's young and the last year has been really tough on him in various ways. Enough said!

I listened to the commentary and especially his own comments pretty carefully recently. In sport and in life I've seen many, many young men his age go through a rough patch. One at my old boxing gym didn't make it. 23 years old. I went through something similar when suffering a very bad injury at 22. Just something I've seen over and over with friends' kids, etc. For some reason things can get emotionally challenging for guys around that age. Don't know the details as to why. I can imagine it's tough living his lifestyle at 20 or so, too. I'm pulling for the kid. Love watching him play, too.

Depression is a real thing and I respect this kid for being honest and dealing with it in the public eye. Happy his game is back on track as well.

I’m not a Wolff fan and can’t say I pay attention to him much - but did he say he was diagnosed with depression? Sorry if I missed that earlier in the thread, but all I heard from Wolff in the clips show last week was that he was trying to be happy and needed a break. I didn’t hear him say he was depressed or had depression.

I think Wolff can be one of the top players, but I think his mental game is not helping him. At the US Open, he was -2 at the #9 hole and really was still in it.  After he hit a poor second shot (pulled left hook) on #9 (par 5), he got really angry and frustrated. He could have really made a run at it in the final holes, but you could visibly see his anger and frustration getting the better of him in the final holes.  The guy can play and is one of the longer guys on tour.
