Picked up a G425 7 wood to replace my 3 hybrid. My hybrid used to be my go to club. I had such confidence with it. It’s almost like as I got to be a better player I just got worse and worse with it. Finally picked up a 7 wood and WOW! Wish I’d done it way sooner. Point of this post is for anyone wondering if they should try the 7 wood... the answer is yes!

Yep. I figured it out two years ago when I bought my 917 7 wood. It is now my favorite club.

Wow, the 7 wood selection is slim. I did find a Cobra Fly-Z 5/7 wood adjustable from 17 to 20 degrees. I had never looked for a 7 wood before.

<edit> of course Ping does a 7 and a 9 wood in lefty. Ping cares. 🤣

Check out the PXG website also. They offer a lefty 7 wood in all their FW lines I believe. I know for sure they do with the 0211.

They are cheaper than Ping, and you’ll get the club a lot sooner, if those things are important to you...

I like my 7w so much I'm looking o add a 9w.

I just put in an 11-wood to replace the hybrid I’ve never hit very well.  People thought I was crazy at first but now everyone asks if they can hit it.

I loved the g25 7w.  Finally got the g400 7w last Fall ... and when in FL this winter a store had a new g400 9w ... so I grabbed it for $189

I actually just placed an order for a g425 7 wood yesterday with Ventus blue. Pretty pumped but the 5-6 week wait is going to be torture...

Callaway Speed 7 wd with Riptide 70 took less than a week.

Very pleased with it. Enjoy the 425... when it arrives. Of course, I am awaiting a Mizuno STZ 3 wd - 3 more weeks to go...

How timely, just now the announcers on the CBS broadcast of the Zurich astutely pointed out how 7 woods have become much more popular on the tour.

I just added a PXG Proto 7 wood to replace my 3 hybrid. The 3 hybrid was just too close to the 4 hybrid to be useful. I'm using a heavenwood shaft length and it fits the gap between my 3 wood and 4 hybrid perfectly. After 3 rounds, it's working well. I was worried about hitting out of iffy lies, where I used to use my hybrid but so far so good.

Assuming that 7 wood is 21*, what is your next club? If you look at my sig, I go from a 16.5* 4 wood to a 19* hybrid. I’m assuming the 7 wood will replace that.
Would a 21 or.22* 4 hybrid be okay or should I go with something higher lofted behind the 7?

I like woods in general and hit them good its just that i feel a wood head shape vs hybrid seems more unforgiving in certain lie situations. Basically i feel hybrid is more versatile and easier to hit.

I too think the hybrid is more versatile so I do still carry one but now instead of a 4H  I carry a 5H to go between my Heavewood and 5 iron.

I go 4w, 7w, 4h currently with the hybrid being 22°. The yardage gaps are as follows:

4w: 235

7w: 215

4h: 200

5i: 185

Thanks, I don’t have the distance anymore that you do, but I think the 4 hybrid would be the way I should go also.

I just got my 4 wood and 19* and 21* hybrids. I really like the FW, I’m actually better with it than my old 15*.

The 21* hybrid is so good, I ordered a 23* 5 hybrid on Friday, just to try.

The 19* hybrid is good, but to be honest I get so much more from it on a tee shot when playing a short par 4 or a long par 3, it leads me to think I’m not getting much benefit from it off the grass.

Im going to give it more of a chance, but I already have a PXG 7 wood in a cart.
Going off past history once that happens, I already know how this movie will end... 🙄

I've had a 7 wood in the bag until 2017 when the Cobra OS 3-4 hybrid was released. It never really got much love here but I liked it so much I have a backup in case it breaks.  It blurs the line between a hybrid & fairway. Really fits my eye. There is just a nice natural looking size progression between my Cobra 5 wood, the Cobra OS & my Cobra 5 hybrid.

Irons: Taylormade 2021 P790's 5-AW

Wedge: Taylormade MG3 54 Degree

Wedge: Callaway Sureout 2 @ 60 degree

I have a 3 wood (15), 7 wood (21), and 4 hybrid (22).  I am playing the 7 wood at a 3 wood length and lofted down to 19.5 degrees. It's easier for me to hit the 7 wood out of iffy lies than a 5 wood and it flies higher.

Lots of us go 9wd now, as well. I carry 5h & 6h as well, 1st iron is 7i

For those of you using 9 woods, what’s your setup? Are you going with all of 3W, 5W, 7W, 9W? 4/7/9?

@Tee1up4 How would you compare the G425 7 wood to the G425 hybrid ?

I'm going through this debate myself. I tried the g425 3 wood and it's an absolute killer, but no 7 wood available..

Thank you for your input

Jason

I liked the G425 hybrid. Sometimes it was a great club for me. Other times I would be hesitant to pull it because I would fear the left miss. So I would either choke down a 3 wood and try to hit a high cut or jump on a 4 iron. I fully admit I didn’t care for the feel of the Ventus Blue I had in it. Had an ADDI on my G410 hybrid and it was great. So it’s mostly the shaft. That and compounded with the fact that I didn’t ever have much confidence in it anymore. So I got the 7 wood and put a Diamana ZF 80 gram shaft tipped 1”. I’ve only used it a few rounds but I feel like it’s just as versatile as a hybrid. So easy to hit and launch. As dumb as it sound, I kinda found the notion of a 7 wood silly. So glad I got over that. I go from Driver, 3 wood, 7 wood(20.5) to my 4 iron. I don’t have an issue with the gapping. 7 wood goes about 225-230. 4 iron goes about 215.

I go 16.5/4W then g425 7W set at 21.5 which is the best out there IMHO due to adjustability, then g425 5 hybrid set at 25* and g425 6 hybrid set at 29*. I have never been a ping fan but with their adjustability for flat settings and multiple lofts it’s sooo easy to get your gaps right and that’s critical to play even mediocre golf like I do.  Here are carry numbers.
4w - 195

7W - 185

5H - 175

6H - 165

My STZ 3 wood should be here this week. Got fitted for it about a month ago and it blew me away. Looks, feel, and performance. Total package.
