Pasatiempo and aerated greens - worth it?

I’m going on a business trip, I don’t want to lug my clubs for 1 round.   I’ll be in San Jose and was thinking of making a drive to Pasatiempo and renting clubs for a round.   I found out they aerated the greens on April 21st, I was planning on playing on May 1st.    I don’t plan on setting the course record or anything with rented clubs and only playing one other time so far the year.  Is it worth the trip with discounted greens fees so close to everything being aerated?

I think it depends on how much the discounted greens fees are.

 

Pasatiempo is absolutely one on my favorite courses I've ever played. However, as bad as I would like to play it again, there is also absolutely no way that I would ever pay the rates listed on their website to play it again.

I guess it depends.  If it was a deep punch they may not have recovered enough to be really "playable".

I would not do it - greens and green complexes are part of the allure of Pasa.  Wait it out and come back for full experience.

I played the course Saturday. The greens rolled about the same as an average muni. I have played the course dozens of times and don’t mind playing it at the end of aeration because it’s half price ($175) The course is certainly less challenging on slow greens but the architecture is the same. JFYI most courses are not renting clubs due to COVID.

When we played Torrey Pines South several years ago it hadn't been long since they had punched.  I really didn't have any options for playing a different date, and it was a surprise for my daughter.  She and my dad and I played - great day all the way around.  But . . . . although I adjusted to the greens, they were a bit distracting and not rolling great.  It wasn't the fault of the aeration my three foot par putt on 3 broke toward the ocean but seemingly uphill and I ended up with bogey, lol.  Had I known in advance they'd just been punched we would have still played, but if I'd had the luxury of picking another week and a trip back I would have definitely chosen to avoid the issue - no discount, lol!  I thought it was a hefty price back then, but nothing compared to what Pasatiempo is now - we'll be in Monterey in July and already eliminated Pasatiempo from the short list because of price (hoping to play Pebble and that's where the $ will go) though it looks amazing.  Other courses in the area look pretty darn nice as well.

They punched the fairways as well. I played last Friday for $114 after applying a 30% off code to the hot deal and enjoyed my round but some of the greens were obviously more rough than others. It was also cart path only so I carried my bag.

Pasa is fantastic, I played twice in March, but aerated would definitely detract from the experience; I'd hold off if possible.
