Just wondering, how do you guys pick or know that which is the right ball to play? picking from feel or putt and short game or swing speed?

Cheers

Just my two cents, but I'd say from the green to tee.  Start on the green and get a good feel for the putter, then work on short chips and pitches and get a good feel there, then 100-150 yards out or so, and then the woods and driver.

I measure how the ball behaves off my driver, irons, wedges and putter.  It has to feel right across in all respects, not just one or two.  I play new ProV1 and the new AVX; which depends on 1st tee impulse.  😛

I have always used ProV1x during HOT 100'+ days, but not sure if I will be able to keep that up.  It seems to have a noticeable increase in spin compared to the prior version.  Only time and whacking them will tell.

Trial and error

I bought some Bridgestone RX balls on sale and started to use them. (very long)

After a while, they were a little clicky on putts, so I moved to the Srixon Z Star(on sale again) , tried the OnCor, (not good in the wind), tried the Chrome Soft (was a short ball for me), and have settled on the Snell black. They are having trouble keeping them in stock, so once I am done with my supply, I was going to give the Vice a go and see how that performs.

I wish Snell made a Truvis ball.  I really like the Truvis on putts but was not getting the distance on the Chrome Soft compared to the Snell.

The ZStars are also a good ball.  The BOGO deal for the ZStars is a winner.

These are all my own experiences, yours may vary.

Like I said, trial and error

Lots of testing start on the putting green, some chipping then if you can during an early or late round drop a few balls from a set distance and see how they perform with irons on certain shots and then finally driver.

Green to short game to short irons to tee.
I can putt with almost any ball.

I want a ball that is going to do what I expect off of my wedges from 40 and in and off of my irons from 150 and in.
Right now for me that is the Tour B Rx - just switched from the Tour B X.  Getting the same distance with both (swing speed is right at the "cutoff" of the two), but the feel of the RX and the playability around the greens of the RX is just better for me right now.

I've heard that OnCore can really cause hell on the first tee
