Best wedges of 2021: Discussion thread

Recommended Posts

just got the jaws forged 52, 56, and 60 all in C grind. they are 2* higher bounce than retail C grind in same loft which makes them a bit more forgiving actually. think they will do great for me especially. the 52* is squared nicely to flow with the irons

Does anybody play the speciality grinds from wedgeworks...Justin Thomas 60...there have been many

I picked up (if memory serves me right on player) the Jimmy Walker 64* that came out back around October of last year.  64/04 specs that depending on my ability has either saved me in some situations or have harmed me (to be fair, I need to spend more time dialing in my wedge game).  I had it built up with a KBS shaft but after playing some S400's recently in the rest of my wedges I probably shoult make the change for consistency sake.

vokeys work great for me and have for 20 years.  I don't see why I would change anything.  I honestly would rather just have the same wedges available every 2-3 years.  If they still offered the 200 series i'd probably still be buying them.  That being said the sm8 is interesting, much more forgiving on toe hits than any wedge i've played.

I am waiting for mine to come back after getting the shafts replaced too. I was not a fan of the new spinner.. I felt like all they did was launch the ball high and loose.

odd -- i thought the exact opposite lol

i felt like they kicked through the impact area and it always was difficult to time up -- most came out low and dead... *shoulder shrugs*

The opposite to what you want with a wedge

Dont see anything wrong with a stiff shaft for face control and slightly.increased loft

To B_of_H  you can get your clubs, especially wedges, re-ground, one place is called The Iron Factory. in Glendale AZ.  Of course this undermines the advertising and sales of Newest Bested This Year Model.

Their Kronus wedges look incredible, very intrigued by those. But yes they do amazing club refinishing and grinding

What did you two see when you got your new shafts? What did you go with? I have noticed that my distances jumped up with these wedges and the ball feels like it jumps off the face compared to wedges with same lofts. I found  the zipcore doesn't spin as much around the green or inside 50 yards when compared to others. I'm not sure if that's because of the shaft or the overall swing weight. I was considering putting my old Nippon 115 wedge shafts in. I would like to pick up some more spin on those touch shots, I just wouldn't want to sacrifice the new stock yardages, or my ability to hit lower or higher flighted shots with the stock spinners.

I put kbs .610 stiff flex shafts in them. I saw on a GC quad about a 5 degree lower launch and the same spin. I live the tighter feel of them as well.

I would go SM8 for grinds and consistency. 2nd swing did a wet wedge test and imo misinterpreted their own data to crown the Cleveland's, but to me the vokeys take it.

BTW is have Glide 3.0's in my bag.

I had a wedge fitting and narrowed it down to Bettinardi and Titleist SM8 pretty quickly (Calloway wedges were third).  My previous wedges were Titleist SM4, so I was biased toward Titleist wedges.  However, the Bettinardi wedges felt terrific.  I would've gone with Bettinardi if it offered the loft and bounce I need.  Ended up going with the Titleist SM8, but will keep an eye on Bettinardi wedges.
