I think we play golf on very different scales of distance.   For me 100 yards is right in between my 52 degree gap wedge (mid-90's) and my 46-degree pitching wedge (around 110). By the time

I use all my wedges plus a 9i. Since I try to use the Pelz method I have a lot of different shots that I can skull and shank

For 100 yds and in, I will normally use any one of four clubs: 9i (43), PW (47), GW (52), or SW (58).   I don't hit my 58* with a full swing, and only rarely take full swings with the 52*.

Very interesting to read everyone's posts...so many different ways to play golf, that's what makes it so awesome.

This is the biggest thing I'm trying to get dialed in this season...last season my wedge game was my biggest weakness, and I tend to hit shots over the green and get absolutely punished for it.

In theory, my plan for wedges this season is:

95-105 yds: 50* Mid

65-95 yds: 54* Mid

25-65 yds: 58* Mid

For greenside within 10 yds of the green, I can go Bump & Run with my 9-iron or finesse wedge shot with my 58*.

I have all new irons and wedges this season, so time will tell if these numbers end up being accurate.

I carry a low bounce 53 degree wedge and a high bounce 58. The lie will dictate the wedge I use- not always the distance. So, from a firm lie I may hit a 1/2 or 3/4 shot with the gap wedge when the distance would dictate a full 58. And the 58 is invaluable for soft lies. Thus, I practice a lot of 1/2, 3/4 and full shots with both and I let the course conditions dictate which wedge to use.

I've gotten pretty good at my bump and run game inside 80 yards.  As long as I don't have to carry anything, I will use anything from a hybrid down to a 56 based on the distance to the hole.  I've found this method to be much more reliable than partial wedge swings, and there's basically zero chance of making poor contact.  I used to be big on Dave Pelz's clock system, but I just don't have the practice time to keep my distances refined.

I play a three wedge setup. Set matching 46 PW, 52 with 8 bounce, and 58 with 10 bounce. I live in Seattle and play year round so conditions vary significantly from pretty much mud for 4-5 months in the winter to dry deadpan in late summer. I'll generally let course conditions and lie influence my approach and am comfortable hitting partial shots with each but I tend to bias toward the 58 from 95 in and then my 46 for bump and runs.

I find the 58 to generally be more versatile and the 52 to simply be a gap wedge for myself (120-95).
