No one would choose option 1 as it is offers no gain over option 2 and 3.

 

If you win a tournament every year you keep your card anyway which is the same for a major win every 5 years.

I thought the same thing...you don't lose your card in options 2-4 so option 1 is redundant.

 

Have to set limits about how much you'll play.  LIke ~25 times a year?

Number 4 would be like Jim Brown's career.  Be the best; retire at your peak, and have another career in something else.

Tringale is 33, has 299 starts with no wins and $13,743,938 in winnings. He could play to 40, never win and still retire early and well off. I would take take no issue, no stress.

Fantastic question in my opinion as it really  made me think before I answered.  I had to go with #3 because it is the best combination of all that I would want out of a career.  You would win right  away and prove to yourself that you could do it...then you would have to grind for years and you would go through those times when you think the game had passed you by, only to win again on the biggest stage. Then once your career was done your would be a lock for the hall of fame and be mentioned among the greats. You would always remain relevant because you would win a big tourney and that means you would always bring in a ton of endorsement money.  You would never be dominant, but would always be consistent, and that is what all golfers strive for because dominance is temporary in most cases. Great question!
