Surprises nobody has mentioned Wayne Shorter's sax solo on Steely Dan's 'Aja' (4:42). The album's title track is simply epic.

I’ll probably mention the strumming in Rocker-ACDC every 5th page… as on Dirty Deeds. Thats simply what a rock guitar should sound like.

 

i also like Rockabilly guitarists, the two solos by Boz Boorer in Rockabilly guy pretty much nails it.

 

as soon as a guitar tone sounds like showing off motoric abiliy it’s uninteresting to me. Every single tone should add to the eargasm of the tune.
