Need to go back to no fans at tournaments. The idiots are back with a vengeance.

What do you “fix” in order to prevent whatever serious incident you’re referring to? You mean someone inebriated attacking a player?

Ban alcohol and someone might still get in some altercation.

Ban fans? Okay. Might be fine for most tournaments to survive. But you’d lose some. And not sure the sponsors would be thrilled with losing hospitality.

So what do you fix?

TV on mute, some Balearic house on in the background, large gin and tonic on the side... best way to watch golf in the modern era.

I think someone mentioned plain clothes security earlier, specifically throwing out offenders, I reckon that along with a visually high number of uniform security and course staff would get the message across after a year or two. Bump the price of everything up from the tickets to the beer would help a little too.

Maybe they should ban spectators from the Premier League because a few dozen stormed the pitch at Old Trafford and brawled with the cops.

Unfortunately a bad example; European football reinvented it's self 30 years ago to specifically deal with fan issues and make itself a better spectacle for a TV audience and families. They banned lots of people and aggressively changed the demographic they went after. All stuff golf can do should it see fit.

Kokrak said he had some pretty horrible comments directed his way yesterday on the back nine going against Spieth.  But just shrugged it off and concentrated on his shots.  But no player should be subjected to that.  I agree if fans in the gneral area were asked by security "who was that" at least a dozen fingers would point directly to the moron, then out he needs to go and a permanent ban on any golf event.  You can't make it a one year ban as the event is just once a year, unlike MLB or the NBA where a one year ban could affect his season tickets.

it would end in a nano second if someone 'yelled' something political and not the corporate friendly kind...The PGA /networks and their "sponsors" would hate the storm that would ensue and we'd never hear another bud-light drunken ______scream their insecurities agian!

Notwithstanding the possibility that many fans now don’t buy tickets to attend because they don’t want to put with all the stupid yelling and player insults, which I happen to think is purely reprehensible behaviour, worthy of ejection.

I guess if the whole scene continues to degenerate/escalate, we will end up seeing players & caddies with their own personal security following them around the course. Shameful.

There's credence to what the OP implied.  I haven't quite figured out why so many scream and holler at the top of their lungs... it's as if the football stands and bars emptied into a televised golf tournament.  What ya bet when sober those screaming idiots are at home on social media, maybe even Golfwrx. lol

This is why I won’t attend the Ryder cup when it’s at Bethpage. I live 30 mins away and would love to but the Long Island dooshes are on another level. Can’t imagine at the Ryder cup.

No, no, no, no.  I don't know you, but I forbid you from skipping the Ryder Cup that's only 30 minutes away.  You'll regret missing that.

Maybe the Tour needs to take baby steps to rid itself of this infestation of boorish misbehavior. Start with making one phrase verboten. My vote goes to "Baba Booey". Anyone uttering that aloud gets escorted off the premises immediately and a long ban from returning, say a couple of years. Then once that has been eradicated the same can be done for "Mashed Potatoes", "Get in the hole" and the other inane phrases that these morons like to shout. Problem solved.

The problem is any phrase you ban, they will come up with 5 other ones, and you'll be endlessly chasing them. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy. Cheer, clap, hoot and holler all you want (after the shot of course), but screaming out random phrases gets you booted for the rest of the tournament.

You might think so but that’s no where near the reality.

The WM had 720,000 people in 2018. That’s more than double any event, including majors. I don’t think TW has played there in 20 years.

The majors all get sold out. There no material increase when TW shows up.

What, you think a bunch of drunk 21 year olds yelling bababooey in 2021 have anything to do with Tiger?

They were like 6 years old in his prime ; )

Yet, when I listen to Golf mouths on TV they still banter about the belief, TW is the draw.  And he's used by the PGA Tour to snag sponsors, still.  Guess it comes down to who is doing the talking.  😛

It’s amateur hour everywhere right now.  Airlines, bars, restaurants - basically anything that was locked down.  People are tasting relative freedom and make the most of it.

Id say it gets a bit more under control by next season.

Oh, and mashed potatoes is hilarious and I wouldn’t be even moderately upset if someone yelled that after igniting a big tee shot.  I’m in my mid 30s and still immature I guess 😎

I don't know if anyone was up to watch the final of the USA-Mexico CONUCAF Nations League final in Denver, but it almost made one feel glad golf fans are so civlized.

They stopped the game in extra time for a PSA about no racism from fans, after extra time started and multiple skirmishes occurred on the pitch.  then after the US scored a penalty in extra time by Christian Pulisic during the celebration some Mexican fan threw trash on the field that included a bottle or cup filled with something that knocked down a US player an left him woosy. At the end of extra time there was a scrum near a sideline where Pulisic was and multiple fans threw more and more stuff as another scrum happened. This time a Mexican player got hit on the head by something,  but it looked like more Mexican fans were doing the throwing though there were USA fans close enough they could have done it too.

It was a fantastic game with more twists and turns than a dime store novel or Phil Mickelson round when the driver isn't working. But fan behavior and the idiots at FIFA and COMUCAF ruined a great game to watch. All fans should be locked out of all games with professional teams no matter the sport and NCAA D1 college games.

OTOH, I was umpiring a HS summer baseball tournament Saturday when I got nailed on the forearm with a fastball the catcher completely missed, and it hurt really bad, pitch was in the mid- to low 80's. My arm swelled up immediately and got cut by the impact. A bunch of parents from each team helped me with ice, and getting back to my car to get to the hospital after coaches helped me off the field. There are still good fans out there too, not just idiots a professional events.

Thankfully you weren't umpiring a Tigers game. They would not have cared.

This is your standard US Mexico atmosphere

When they play in Mexico City fans have thrown cups of urine down at American players who are taking corner kicks

You think this dies down?????? It's been going on for years. Years before everything got locked down. This self entitled never heard the word no walking trash behind the ropes has to ruin everything for everybody. This garbage started in the Tiger Woods era. It is not Woods fault. The Tour has done nothing to stop it. Get ready to see far worse over the next few years.
