The Mystery of the Taylormade rac CB

Wow that really sucks. What did you eventually find to replace?

I went through four sets of irons in 2010 trying to find something I was comfortable with.  Settled on Titleist blades for a while with X100.  My RAC's had the original Project X Satin shafts and perhaps it was a bit of a shaft issue as well.  I haven't had an iron set that has lasted more than a couple of years since, but have the ZX7's with C Taper S+ now and probably will stick with those for a while.

That really sucks you had to go through so many sets. I hear a lot of things about the 680 cb. Have you had any experience with those?

As a proud user of this iron up until last year when I felt it was time for a change there was a certain mystique about them.  I don’t think I had the Miura forgings but based on what I learned from the BSG days there were only a handful of sets made.  From what I remember only 100 sets were made.  I am probably wrong.  I decided to purchase the Srixon 785 irons and it’s been a huge improvement.  However before having a family when I was able to play 3 times a week hitting the RAC CB’s was a religious experience.  So smooth and the ball flight!   Great sticks.  But after 16 years it was time for a change.  I still have them as my backup set.  Sentimental value to me.

I see a few sets of these in Japan. Makes me think there were more than 100. 1000 would be a reasonable limited edition. I should just get a job over at Miura to see how it all works...

I wouldn’t doubt 1000 sets being made.  I remember the debates on the old forum Bombsquad Golf and people would argue and argue of what’s a Miura forging and what wasn’t.  I think if you have a certain marking on the hosel of the 6 iron it was Miura.  What was confusing is the experts would say one thing and I would be like oh I think I have it and then someone would totally debunk it and I would be like nope I don’t have it.  So I really don’t know if I had a miura forging Rac CB or not.  To be honest I didn’t care.  The irons served me well.  16 years!   Still have them.  I do love my Srixon 785.  Huge difference in feel.   Won’t be parting with either of these at all.

Supposedly traded in by Corey Pavin.  I was tempted to buy these but Id better not.  Looks like the short irons are coin forged while the longer ones are the real deal.

Weren’t some of the 300 irons made by Miura  as well? Found this tonight…

http://forum.tourspecgolf.com/topic/12480-are-all-taylormade-300-irons-forged-by-miura/

They were busy making clubs for everyone. Macgregor Japan, PRGR, Taylormade, Bridgestone, I suspect a lot of Daiwa, Mizuno even and I've probably missed a bunch. Titleist JP,

Kyoei, who are right across the river from Miura, probably had a hand in a bunch of old JDM. It's one of those mysteries.

For people reading this, there was a brand called Auldex that Miura used to make clubs under. There was a set, virtually identical to the Mac Ray Floyds, name is escaping me... Kind of like the CB-201. I slept on them... There are a few more that pop up now and then...

I have these Black Rac Combo Set with satin PX shaft forever, played approx. 4 seasons with them.  I bought it on ebay and the listing said they might be tour but I can never confirm it.   Looking at the top line of the 5 iron is so scary, super thin.

Gotta play what works for you right? I picked up a 52* RAC Gap Wedge last year that was old and beat up, but man did it ever perform!

Have come across a couple of sets in good shape used and definitely giving some serious thought to picking up a set and putting them head-to-head vs my Srixon ZX7’s.
