She sure looks like she swings the fastest, with that 3 wood.  

 

A bit too much "lash" and recoil for my taste.  Looks like it could go wild at any time.  Contrast that with the tempo and balance of someone like Patty Tav

Instead of that 3-wood... I wonder whether Ariya would benefit from a mini-driver (e.g. a TM-OO 13.5*) with same-length 3-wood shaft?

What do you guys find works well, to repel insects (esp those persistent midges/ sandflies during an Australian  summer)

i'm wondering if a USB neck fan (with a beekeeper hat / insect repellent ) = a worthwhile comfort trade-off, to keep the bugs away!
I've seen Ariya using a hand-held fan (whilst waiting to hit her shot), but i'm thinking some DEET-powered repellent = much needed?

I live in an area that gets infested with black flies and mosquitos in the spring and a secret trick is an Avon product called "skin so soft", it works amazingly well.

I had thought about a "2 wood" for her.  Although I don't know that a lower flight than what she is hitting her 3w, would be of benefit

These Driving Distance stats = skewed by Ariya's (#69) preference for a 3-wood... but sharing here for any folks who're interested.

Wow. It sure looks like another tournament scoring record (2018 - Jessica at -25) is going to fall by the wayside. Lydia shouts a solid 5 under, and still finds herself 5 shots off the lead. Nicole and Ariya shoot pedestrian 69's, and drop like rocks. Sheesh.

 

Nice rounds by Hee Young, Amy, and Gaby. Hopefully Hee Young doesn't have another implosion like last week. 

 

I'll be teeing off shortly, so I won't get to view the coverage until this afternoon. Mighty impressed by Patty and Jen. Amazing that Patty is averaging 285 yds in those soft conditions. I guess it's not the 323 we saw in the firm conditions at the ANA, but given that it's almost all carry, it's something.

I've seen her hit driver on the range in Florida and in Michigan at the Volvik. IIRC, it was a TM. She just blasted it. It sounded like shooting a cannon. I've seen most of the longer hitters on the range and I don't remember any other LPGA player with that sound.

 

I've never seen one in her bag during a tournament.

When I walked with Ariya a couple of years ago in Ann Arbor, she hit more irons off the tee than three woods, The three wood was pretty rare, maybe a few times per round. I think mainly on par 5s.

She's played the driver a couple of times over the past few years, but it's a rarity. She should definitely work on finding one that suits her swing. The 3 wood is not error proof, so if a player is going to hook a 3 wood, may as well hit driver on the holes that allow it.

Some are driving the par 4 15th hole, right onto the green.  Others only a yard short.  Listed at 320, why do i doubt that?  Pattaya is not the desert.

On the Siam Country Club website the Old course is rated 6500+ yards.

Absolutely.  Lexi Thompson needs to hit driver more as well
