Rory definitely looks after himself! Anything sub 50 resting bpm is very respectable indeed.   Interestingly the only time my resting bpm has ever been below 50 was while watching J.B Holmes

I feel the same way about Augusta National.  So thankful I'm not a member there.  Declining membership was the right decision for me.       😀

Rory has a hall of fame career and he’s 32… I get that wrx is hyperbolic but wow

If you're not a believer in Keith Mitchell then you can say that -7 is the actual lead so in that case I'd say anyone at -2 or better has a shot.  I say P. Reed sneaks in and wins this one.

I dont think you can discount Mitchell, the guy is a bomber and he has won before, his game looked great yesterday

really? You’re going to use Byron Nelson as your example, in 1945 nonetheless?? If I remember correctly there was a lot going on in 1945.... like WWII...

incredible achievement for Byron, winning all these golf tournaments when the majority of his competition was at war.

Byron’s stroke average that year was not matched or beaten for 55 years. Guess who broke that record in 2000 with 68.17?

BTW, The reference was to compare/contrast Rory’s great record with perhaps Tiger’s. My point is that there have been other great seasons and careers, of course.

Phil Mickelson also comes to mind.  Threatened but did not win majors until end of 2003 (17 top-ten finishes, and six second- or third-place finishes between 1999 and 2003). Then a trophy case full of major wins in the next six years.

I’m guessing Rory will win more majors. IMHO.

Fair enough. He was indeed 3 back, you're right about that. However, he was still well in contention (in the final group) yet he never put any pressure on PR or ever looked even remotely threatening.

The point about the eagle putt on 2 is that he lost the tournament mentally, there and then. Look at his reaction and body language. He was absolutely crushed and never recovered, something we've seen before and since, not least Augusta 2011.

Rory didn’t lose the 2018 Masters tournament on the Eagle Putt on Hole 2, he still made Birdie & closed Reed’s lead to 2 shots on that hole. Rory was fighting his swing from the very start (remember his wide right 1st tee shot on hole 1?) The 3rd hole Rory hit another poor shot missing the green, but then the 4th Hole Rory bounced back hitting a fantastic med/long iron to 8ft making birdie - again closing the lead to 2. The problem was Rory was fighting his swing on almost every hole. Some days you just don’t have anything working, and it was one of those days. He only hit 44% Greens in Rd4.

Lol.

Winning a lot doesn't mean he hasn't thrown away a lot of other tournaments while in, or tied for, the lead going into Sunday (usually in a listless, insipid manner). Both things can be, and are, true.

If you're not sure what I'm talking about, here's a good one to start with. This is the sort of Sunday performance that has become more and more common from him over the latter half of his career. The sort where he looks like he's suffocating under the pressure and his body language could barely be more negative. He lost this particular one when he missed the eagle putt on 2.

That Reed putt on 12 is still so much fun to watch.
