Ping i59 irons - 2021 Wells Fargo Championship

Recommended Posts

I’ve been playing i500s for a few years. Quite happy with them but have been considering looking at blended sets after this season. Clearly we have little idea what these are at the moment but I’ll be keeping an eye on them as candidates to simply fill the bottom half of the bag without having to abandon the long irons in i500s.

From the pictures I’ve seen they’re not Blueprint small, so it should resemble the profile of a “normal” club

Anyone have any idea whether these will have MMTs available? I don't want to do any reshafting.

Would be great if they were. I told myself I would not buy new irons until the MMT 125 in stiff flex is widely available because I want to see if that is a better fit for me than the 105 TX SS. Hopefully, the 125 stiffs are out and available right around the same time these come out.

For the price point- they better offer MMT 105 & 125

Also these are aimed at certain segment- even without the wrx pingfanboys

Wonder how many collegiate witb these will show up in? Usage on Tour/s?

I have to admit that despite how great these look, I'm going to wait for the i230… I need to see how blended and what bounce they are. If they're high bounce again, I'll go 59. If the 59s are also a little bit blended, as it appears in these photos, and they offer MMT, I'll pounce on them. Still might go with a chunky 4-iron though.

Think these are i500 / Blueprint love child......as I hope they are closer to s55 / i500 - but not keeping my hopes up

Wonder how they will feel vs the Blueprint.

Had a set of the Blueprint and as good as they look... The feel just was there.. Felt pretty dead coming off the face especially being a forged set.

Hopefully they'll improve on these ....

Funny on that, I was thinking I hope they feel like blueprint. To me the blueprints are the best feeling club I’ve hit. Are they the most buttery - no! So, I get the sentiment. But I’ve never hit a club where I had more perfect feedback on exactly where the ball hit the club face than the blueprint. The blueprint is smaller than I wanna go, but if Ping can get that same feel in an iblade-ish footprint, I want that.

Blueprints felt dead? I mean they don't feel as soft as a Mizuno but they still feel good and definitely don't feel "dead".

I guess you just weren't hitting the middle... Haha

It looks like they are in a handful of players’ bags on the European Tour now too.  Overall it appears there a lot of split sets with i59’s. Guys still sticking with iBlade and i210’s in the longer irons. Hmmm

Per a member earlier in this thread and someone else I trust, this leans to the longer irons being hollow/filled IMO.

Haha could be... Didn't have that buttery feeling I come to expect from a Forged iron but I guess comparing it to Mizuno, Miuras isn't particularly fair. But in comparison to the Titleist and Taylormade, it still felt pretty hard in comparison.

Blueprints are forged from 8620 carbon steel which will be a tad bit firmer feeling than irons made out of 1020 carbon steel. It's all about personal preference. I prefer the feel of forged 8620 irons like the Blueprints or Wilson Staff MB's over Mizuno's 1020. They both feel fantastic if flushed.

Agree. I really enjoy the 8620 steel. Has a nice dense hit to it. The V6, Blueprint, etc., I like to feel the compression.

Agree they don't feel deal but they feel like Pings. They don't really feel forged they feel very similar to the iBlade. Which is completely fine.. if you like Ping. I do like that feeling it's just not going to meet your expectations if you're coming from an MP blade or something and are EXPECTING that feel. To me they feel powerful, muted, but not that same softness.

Q&A with Marty on 2nd Swing Youtube today. He said paraphrase: they are very excited about the technology in these. Look for info on availability later this summer. These will be a very good option for the better player.

They look great, but way more like a blend between Blueprint / iBlade than a i210 replacement. Seems like they are consolidating irons at high players end of the line.

Hoping I'm wrong though.

This is exactly what our PING rep said at demo day yesterday. Think Iblade replacement with some Blueprint design.

Given some tour guys are keeping iBlades or i210 in the top end they’re likely for ball strikers. Great looking though I’ll certainly be demoing

I go the opposite way with this thinking. I tend to believe the top end irons are hollow with fill and that turns the tour players off. A poster earlier in the thread or the other that would know posted the long irons are hollow filled.

Surely there isn’t another iron release at this point? If there really was an i500 or similar replacement we would have heard about it by now.

My club builder basically said to think of it as an i210/iblade combo set replacement.  Long irons similar to i210, scoring similar to iblade.
