Unbelievable Lie... Wouldn't believe if I didn't see it myself

I should've taken a pic of mine.  At River View golf course I was trying to punch out towards the green.  Accidentally put too much loft on it and it shot up straight into the tree in front of me.  Ball was stuck in the one of the spikey stalks about 20 feet up.  Had to take a drop and ended up making a double.  Needless to say I was irritated at the time.  By the time the round was over, we were having a good laugh about it.

My friend John to date has the alltime worst i've ever seen, and i can't possibly imagine a worse one

Ball was in a hole/nest in a tree, about 6-7 feet up, facing opposite the direction of where the ball came from. Makes no sense how the ball could end up there and it was obviously completely unplayable. There was no direct line from the tee to that spot in the tree.

My son teed off once and hit toward an oak tree. Couldn’t find it on the ground. The tree was kind of weird about 5ft the trunk went off in two directions and there was a hallowed out section where it split off. Sure enough that’s where the ball ended up. Funny thing a few weeks later I’m playing the same hole and I see a broken driver sitting in the same spot. Guess whoever it was got tired of hitting driver into that tree.

Can I legally move the ball or play as it lies?

Yes.

You can take relief under the unplayable lie rule unless you are in a penalty area.  You can replay the previous shot, take the ball back anywhere on a line along the ball and the hole or drop within two club lengths no closer to the hole.  All under a one stroke penalty.

Had this shot that was questonally embedded into the side bank of a small creek but outside of the margin of the hazard.

Ugly Lie.jpg

That lies appears to me to be embedded. Also, it is likely you would be entitled to casual water relief as well. Considering the presence of the creek, it is unusual that particular lie is not within the hazard.

The pic doesn't do it justice but the ball was in the side of the bank and while appearing to be embedded, the NPR would have been less than favorable, so I decided to play it as it lies. Aimed way right and pulled an 8 iron.  It only went about 75 yards but turned out OK.

Not really a bad lie, because he got a free drop, but - When I was like 13, I caddied for my dad in the local County Amateur Championship, and on the 12th hole, his drive flew right into a gopher hole in the fairway.  Luckily there was a marshal standing nearby who clearly saw it, otherwise we would've been making a very angry walk back to the tee.

I was playing a practice round one time with my high school teammates, and pulled a tee shot that came to rest in the mud next to a pond, but playable.  I was just trying to advance it down the fairway, so took a swing with my trusty Ping Eye 2 wedge...  and never saw the ball take off.  I looked down at my club, and the ball was stuck to the face in a big clump of mud.

Worst lie I had was in a bunker. 18th hole.  I couldn't find the ball.  Finally there was a tiny hole in the sand the size of a golf ball (picture sand like crystalized sugar). The ball was so deep in the hole that I couldn't even reach it with my fingers.  I had to dig it out with my wedge just to retrieve it.  Shook my head and just went home.  Yes, it was that kind of a day.

I had one in a thin shrub once that was about 5 ft tall. Ball was balancing on a tiny fork on one little branch about 2 ft off the ground. I couldn't believe it was physically possible for the ball to balance in that spot on a branch that little twig of a branch. I don't think I could have placed in on that branch with my hand and got it to stay there... unreal!

I should have taken a picture. I turned a 9i upside down and took a lefty swipe at it. I think I advanced it 10 ft. LOL!!!

If you've ever played southern dunes in central florida you'll be able to envision their deep, high sloped fairway bunkers. I hit a terrible drive that headed hard right. It embedded in the right side of a bunker on the right side of the hole. The bunker was deeper than I am tall and the ball embedded about 5 feet up the slope. I had to dig in the side of the bunker to get a stance and then hit it as hard as I could with an off balance baseball swing. Ball was 3/4 embedded in the side slope.

While I've caught some terrible lies, I can honestly say I've never had anything like I'm seeing here. Probably my worst ever is when I used my rangefinder to get a distance to a back pin and I must have hit the rock wall that was about 15 yards behind it by mistake. Ended up flying the green and nestling about 3 inches away from the wall itself.

I banged a chip shot off the wall to about 3 or 4 feet, but if memory serves me right I was so amped up about the great shot that I missed the putt.
