Hip spinners anonymous

I’m a king of the 6-8 ballerina move that Monte talks about. I was over the top for the first 10 years of my golf career and only made it into a better swing path in the past year or so.

 

since then I’ve become a major hip spinner and i get very stuck behind myself. Miss is all over the place and a lot of fat/thin shots. 
 

ive worked with two instructors who each had slightly different approaches, but i continued to spin. The spinning is worse under pressure and especially if i try to gear up on a ball. It’s not as bad with short irons or woods as it is with mid and long irons.

 

My question is in the solutions. I have seen things like dropping the basket, staying closed longer, lifting right foot, bumping the hip etc. some of the fixes seem to be about getting weight going forward to buy time and some of the fixes seem to be just about delaying the hips without worrying about a weight shift. 
 

is there a time and a place for each? I’ve had some success trying to keep my right knee pointed behind the ball similar to the Larry Cheung move (puts me into that snead squat with both knees bowed out) but i don’t know that this move gets me lateral at all and I’m wondering if it will doom me later. Plan is to do a lesson with Monte later so it might all be a moot point and maybe i should just wait, I’m just exhausted at seeing the same swing show up over and over and over

I'm currently working on the Larry Chueng twist the trail foot clockwise (for righties) move and it has quieted down my Baryshnikov move down quite a bit. 

 

It has changed my swing considerably.  EE, etc.

 

Still striking the ball solid so I don't think there are any bad effects concerning poor lateral movement.

Sorry should have been more clear. For me personally, spinning the hips means that my hips are starting and spinning open well before the arms start down. Symptoms include trail elbow stuck behind body, steepening of shaft in transition and no low point control

Is it mechanical or more of a sequence issue?

Try starting your downswing with your trail shoulder/elbow, instead of the hips.  Exaggerate a different sequence

I throw my hips out towards and around the target extremely aggressively and it wasnt until recently I started to fix it.

 

I've been either;

 

A) Trying to swing with more arms from the top and 

B) Trying to start my downswing with arms instead of hips

C) Mentally trying to delay my hips so the arms can get a head start

 

Each works with varying degrees of success but nothing really sticks. When I try to just have a swing-though-less-round and play easy I will automatically revert to my aggressive hip turn.

Even better if you start with your feet together.

I'd check your hips and arms in that order. From the face-on make sure your hips don't level out until around p6 (i.e lead hip still lower). If that's okay, bring your arms down faster

Rahmbo does this and it seems to not affect him.  I'm considered a hip spinner as well.  It's the lesser of 2 evils for me.  My hips either stall on the down swing and I mis hit the ball all over the place or I fire and open my hips early and usually make good contact but risk blocking it out right.  I'd much rather have over active hips.
