Ping G425 vs 2021 PXG 0211 irons.

Anyone got any experience on these two side by side? I'm thinking they would fit roughly the same category and be aimed at loosely around high single figures to guys all the way out in the 20's.

Currently using JPX900HM and tho i stay clear of noticeably small heads these are surprisingly big. They've performed quite well for me over time however.

From what I've chased up the PXG will feel and sound notably better, be a bit longer and probably be the better performer but i'd love to hear some WRX input.

Kind of funny because I currently play the Mizuno JPX 900 HM and they have been a great iron fitted with the Modus 105 stiff.

Then I thought I'd chase more distance and got the Ping G425 and frankly hated them.  It's the first Ping club I didn't like.  I just couldn't make good contact with them and disliked the sound a lot.

Just last Monday, I had a PXG fitting and ended up ordering the 0211 DC irons.  Not only I got about 15 yards more on average over the JPX 900 but they also felt slightly better.

So I can confirm that FOR ME, the 0211 sound and perform better than the JPX 900 HM and G425 but you must got and hit them for yourself though.

This is EXACTLY what i was looking for. Many thanks.

I'm also playing the Modus 105. Did you happen to get the
Elevate 95 shaft?

I hit both and went with the 0211. I also hit the elevate 95 and the MMT 80g Stiff. Ended up with MMT but the elevate was really nice and smooth. Had some elbow and back injuries so I’m switching to graphite.

I'm coming from Titleist 735.cm set with Rifle Flighted shafts, so a very heavy combo.  This shaft was much lighter but I really like how it feels. I had almost no difference in numbers between the E95 and MMT by the way.   Just came down to preference.

Just played my second round with them and I absolutely love them.

I’ve owned both the G425’s and 0211 DC. I no longer own the G425’s. Sound, feel, and trouble with solid contact led me to selling the G425’s. 0211’s have much better feel and sound. Contact is not an issue with them. 0211’s have Elevate tours and have zero complaints. Never played the G425’s on course but 0211’s have no lack of spin issues for me.

The old ping guys work at PXG now, right down the road.  I believe that the PXG build quality is better than Ping at the moment. Yes, there is a price for it......just my .02

I've pulled the trigger on some PXG's. The reviews are insanely consistent for them.

It's definitely a good thing. Their clubs have a lot of Ping qualities and i reckon you could build a very well fitted set with a mix of both brands.

You have 7 posts and are trashing G425, and never took them to the course? Do you work at a golf factory in Arizona? That is not Ping?

Changing irons made your contact better? 425s must have been very poorly fit then

Interested as well. I’ve got g410 and 0211 (19’s). Pxg with graphite definitely feel better over g410 w/DG105s. Not certain if it’s the goo in the head or the graphite.

That stated, the TGI80 in the PXG is simply not a fit for me. Swing speed is down, distance is down and consistency is poor with PXG.

I did compare both to the 21 0211 w/elevate 95. Better numbers with 21 PXG (indoor, trackman). The increased numbers were likely a result of stronger lofts and not necessarily a better club. Currently, still using my g410.

I’d love to try the 21 w/Steelfiber 95 but I’m not really interested enough with the upcharge.

0211's are much smaller than the 425's.  Both blade length and sole width.  Not even in the same class in my opinion.

PXG at $99 is hard to beat. Sound and feel is just so good. I hit the ball high so stronger loft is not really a problem for me.

It had nothing to do with golf knowledge, and what would you know about the typical WRX'er? I felt it was a biased opinion like yours.

I’d love to try the 21 w/Steelfiber 95 but I’m not really interested enough with the upcharge.

If the club still launches in the right window with a lower static loft and still has enough stopping power, then it is not simply the "result of stronger lofts". It means there is some tech in the club that is allowing you to hit the same flight window while using a shorter shaft and still gain yardage. Now whether or not that is enough to make someone switch is a different discussion. But simply dismissing the gains due to stronger lofts is not a fair assessment IMO. If you put the majority of golfers on a simulator with a "old school traditional" lofted 5 iron with it's stock length long iron shaft and have them hit it, and then put a PXG 0211dc 7 iron in their hand, not only will they likely have the same or slightly better distance, the ball will fly a lot higher and likely have more stopping power, and will likely be a lot more accurate with the shaft 1" shorter. To a majority of golfers out there, they would say that is exactly what makes the PXG a better club.

As for the OP, IMO the performance of the PING G700 and G710 is more in line with the performance of the PXG 0211's. The G425 has very good performance, but IMO the G700 and G710 performance and forgiveness is just on another level for anyone looking for help with launch and distance. But even then, for me the 0211's look better and feel better while matching the performance of the G700 and G710 at a fraction of the cost.

  • 3 weeks later...

I’ll turn 67 in 3 weeks. I currently play the ‘21 0211’s with MMT 70 regular flex shafts.

I was recently fit into a Senior flex shaft (EvenFlow 5.0) with a new driver. That got me thinking that maybe I should do the same with my irons, so I took a trip to the PGASS the other day.

I hit the 425’s in Regular and SR Alta. The senior shaft had higher launch and I picked up 8 yards. Same thing with Launcher Turbo, RadSpeed and Maverick.

Funny thing was, my Regular flex 0211 7 iron was the longest of the bunch (spin and ball flight was also the lowest though). I’m no fitter, but I discussed the numbers with the manager ( who I’m good friends with). He agreed with me that based on the data we had, my best move would be giving the 0211’s a try with the Senior flex MMT 60 gram shafts.

Seeing today that PXGs current price is $89 per, I placed an order today 5-GW. What am I looking for? Higher and longer ball flight. If I get it, great. If not, I have two options. Return the new set and take the 15% restocking hit, or hold onto them, since at my age, if I’m not ready for a senior shaft now, I will be pretty soon.
