US Open with a twist, which setup for you?

Ok, so since this is completely logistically impossible (well I mean the tour is rich enough to pull it off, but it's a fantasy) let's have some fun.  Of the choices as an option, one-course for each Thursday & Friday, and then after the cut round 3-4 are at the same course.  So a 3-course tournament for the US Open.  The stipulation is that the courses need to be in the same region and you have to be able to drive to them within a reasonable time.

For long Island Southhampton, Shinnecock Hills, NGLA, and Sebonack are all virtually connected.

Grow out the rough, speed up the greens, and make them play from over 8,000 yards and you can stick them on 3 or 4 random courses in the RTJ trail in Alabama.

Just for fun, I'm throwing in each of my preferred US Open courses.

 

Thursday at Shinnecock, followed by the Country Club at Brookline, Olympic and a Pebble Beach finale on Sunday.

This is on the right track.  Shinnecock Hills, Winged Foot, and Bethpage Black are the 3 courses, but I'd probably go Bethpage --> Winged Foot --> Shinnecock.

 

OP, no love for Riviera?

why would you put Bel Air CC in the mix when Riviera is just down the road.....even Rancho Park is a better course than Bel Air..the Eisenhower and Babe Z courses at Industry Hills I know are tougher than either, and for pure esthetics Pelican Hill in Orange County is everything you want in a true seaside course

All within 2 hours of each other. I think Cypress point would provide a very interesting Sunday finish with 15/16. Or at the very least a pretty one.

add the Bayonnet Course at Fort Ord and it will give the pros everything they can handle...tore them up when they used it for Tour Q one year, also when they use it for US Open sectional Q

In my dream scenario one of the first 2 rounds would have to be at my local course that I've played tons of times.  I've always found it interesting to ponder how those guys would choose to play each hole (compared to my club choice/game plan), and I've wondered what score they would shoot.

I am not too sure that I have ever played Oakland Hills, much less been on the property. But if someone told me, “hey you’re playing Oakland Hills tomorrow” I am not moving mountains to do so. Firestone is one of the best golf courses in the world, it’s got the distance to challenge you and it demands you to be on your game for every shot. Oakmont is even better than Firestone in every aspect. Much is said about the, “it could host a US Open tomorrow” not really true tbh it simply couldn’t.

 

I am sure Gil Hanse will do an excellent job, he always does.

Bethpage Black is a PGA course not a US Open course imo.

What is the allure of Firestone? Granted I've never been there and likely never will, but looking at the layout, every hole is long and straight with a bunkered green and probably a fairway bunker on one or both sides of the landing area. 4 has a pond and a tree by the green, interesting but not exactly groundbreaking; from the air 16 looks an awful lot like a mirror of 18 at Torrey Pines... 

 

I'm sure the place is well maintained, and I know the historical pedigree is there. I just don't get the hype.

Neither group has consulted me in the matter but I would offer my opinions.
