Weapons of Grass Destruction 2021 Edition *New Titleist Linksmaster bag* 5-11-2021

Recommended Posts

My WITB

I’ve been a die hard single strap carry bag guy for a few years. I’ve got a Jones original and the players bag. Can’t recommend them enough. Pro tip, order the players bag and ask Jones to put the comfy plush strap from the original bag as a substitute.

5-11-2021: Saw this bag in the pro shop, pretty stunning for a stand bag. Paid my taxes today, so I had to treat myself a touch. Slate color, clubs are snug but don’t get stuck. I’m a little concerned after carrying ultra light bags for a few years, but it does feel really balanced  with the single strap, will try the double eventually.

I play any premium ball, but in my bag are last years Srixon ZStar X, Bridgestone Tour BXS, and the new ProV1 and X.

The bag as you can see is mostly Titleist, but has evolved to be that way over time. All grips are standard plus 3 wraps and the grips are either BCT cords or Z cords. And a NDMC cause the club didn’t have any of the others for the new TSI2. Specs below. Driver and irons were fitted the others cam from needs on the courses I regularly play.

TSi3 10 lofted to 10.75, 45.5” GD Tour AD IZ 7X

TSI2 18 lofted to 18.75 and flat, Smoke RDX 7 6.0

818 H1  lofted to 21.74 and flat, S+ Blue 70 Stiff

4&5 716 TMB XP95 S300 2* Weak for launch

620 CB STD LLL, KBS $ Taper 120

SM6 52/10 F grind $ Taper 120, slabbed up for partial shots

National Custom 56/60 $ Taper 115

Oddessey Toulon Las Vegas 33.5 or 34 Stroke Lab shaft. Driver is from Chattanooga Golf and CC, where I grew up playing, Fwy and Hyb are Stitch and putter cover is Signal Mtn GC, where I’m a member, and the other course I grew up playing.

I’ll rotate my navy Jones bad and family tartan headcovers from time to time. They are here.

Happy to answer any questions on setup or clubs. I also rotate a 20* Srixon U65 driving iron, and Tour Edge EXS 16.5 AD DI 7s from time to time, depending on the course. Putters are too many to layout here but they rotate too, although this is always my fall back gamer. It’s great on slow and fast greens. Goals for this year are to play more comps and team events. Happy swinging and Cheers!

Interesting degree gap from driver onward. I’ve been thinking of making the change from Driver, 4 wood and 7 wood.

how has your set up worked for you ?

It’s been a struggle. I have comically low launch conditions for most clubs. I used to go 16.5 4 wood straight to 22 hybrid.

the courses I play have very few holes that I can’t hit driver, but need the distance of the 4 wood, which carried anywhere from 245-260 from the tee. The driving iron is a great low bullet tee ball, but at the moment is troublesome off the deck.

im trying the 5 wood to get more launch into par 5s with a 240 carry, and really need something that will carry that from the tee with no rollout. My 4 iron goes about 215-220 from the tee. They hybrid is my go to club off the tee if I need to hit a straight ball longer than 215. It’s set pretty flat to avoid the hook. It comes down to the courses I play a lot and 3 woods don’t really have much use right now.

Right now I am doing a similar set up. Straight from a 16.5 4 wood to a 22 hybrid with one thing thrown in a 21* 7 wood. Sounds funny but I do not hit the Hybrid as far as the 7 wood. My hybrid is also set up as anti hook by using a stiffer shaft and plenty of lead tape in the toe. I do not get nearly the distance you do but that combo works well for me. I can hit a high 160 yard or so high cut with the hybrid. The 7 wood I can hit about 180 185 or so. Since I only carry 2 wedges I keep the 4 iron too which I can hit a low cut stinger with

I am big fan of strokes gained and I’m just not gaining anything by having a 3/4 wood. I like having 3 specialty wedges and longer irons. So the top of the bag has some concessions. With my swing speed and skill, I can hit more lofted clubs which tend to be more forgiving than hoer replacements.

I think more people should focus on gapping when choosing wedges and hybrids, rather than lofts and typical bag set ups.

dropped in just for the title 😄 excellent.

Which headcovers are on your driver or where are they from? They look hand made real leather, something i'm looking for for quite some time. Any other pictures from them ?

Agree--- For me it is the shots or variety of shots I can hit with a club--- On wedges I am old school as heck. When  I learned the game all we had basically were 2 wedges. My 56 for example I can loft or deloft the same with the PW. Back in the day when I had good SS and could actually play a little bit I had a strange top side set up. In the summer when most of the fairways were lush I only carried a single FW and it was a little Laminate Northwestern 6 wood. I also carried and could use a 1 iron. If I actually got in a big jam I could hit my 10* Persimmon Power Bilt driver off the deck. LOL that 6 wood I could hit some shots with. But yeah in a nutshell I have never paid attention to what was on the bottom of the club or gaps. My thing always was and is still now is how many ways I can utitilize a single club.

The fairway and hybrid are from Stitch Golf.

the driver I believe is from Dormie Workshop. I’ll check later, but I’m pretty sure that’s it. It’s just a club logo custom
