No one interested in drivers this year?

I'm getting the itch to try out a different driver, possibly Sim2 Max.  Been bouncing between TM and Mizuno offerings the past few years with some Srixon mixed in.  So as a starting point, I cruise the forums to see if anything seems like it is generating a lot of buzz or interest.  Crickets.  Lots of talk about irons and wedges and almost nothing about drivers whatsoever.  Just a slow year for drivers?  Looking for something in the fat part of the bell curve.  I know all the releases, just surprised that nothing seems to be really exciting anyone this years.  Seems like most years there are at least 1 or 2 offerings that spawn megathreads.

I've tested the Epic Speed line and SIM 2 this year and ultimately ended going with the SIM 2.  Cally and TM both have solid driver offerings this year and you can't go wrong with either.  I will say this.  The SIM was a game changer for me last year.  Slightly fade biased and the weight track set all the way toe side was it for me.  Unfortunately, launch angle and spin were a hair too high for my liking so I took the plunge and got me an 8* SIM 2.  Epic Speed line feels very solid and are pretty muted if that's your thing.  Ball speeds stayed pretty high on mis hits.

Oh I'm sure there is lots of interest in drivers.  There is no golf product from clubs down to designer gilded ferrules and monogrammed tees that has not been discussed and over analyzed down to its specific strokes gained coefficient.  I bet there is even a thread on the best tartan pattern for a golf tam (that a hat with a powder puff on the top).  This is wrx.

How do you like modern  Mizuno drivers compared to TM? I haven’t hit one in two decades.

Honestly, I haven't had a chance to test the new Mizuno drivers.

Yeah a few months past the initial buzz and big threads. Off the top of my head, the sim 2 was somewhere in the 80s or 90s for pages on the main thread about it and ping was a solid 70 pages or so for the g425. Best bet as always is go somewhere where you can hit different options/shaft combos

Yes! OP just missed ‘em. btw at least try a TSi. IMO better feeling/sounding than any of ones you mentioned. Also performs.

My G400Max still does the job, but just ordered a demo ZX5 driver from Srixon. Nice program, I prefer having some time to try something. Also an opportunity to try a different shaft as well.

It has quite a large footprint, I think all the drivers this year are all fairly similar. Don’t think you can go wrong with any manufacturer.

TXG has said that this year you can't really talk about the "big 4" any more - there are 8 companies (at least) that are making competitive drivers. Win for the player/consumer.

Im interested in a new driver, my old faithful bit the dust in the first week open for golf before the shut down. So ive just been perusing the drivers online and watching reviews. Its just hard for me to get hyped for a driver when every fitter is currently closed and already booked until the end of the summer for a fitting basically.

Im pretty interested in the Rad speed and it being pretty heavily right biased, want to try out a Ventus Black but im not sure if i want to drop down to 6x or go with the 7x since ive been a heavy driver shaft player for the last 6 years. Everytime I feel like pulling the trigger I back off a bit because there is currently no fitting and no testing in person. Then it kinda kills me participating in the threads when I havent tested anything and the only comparisons I have are from watching guys on youtube.

Just the opposite. There were tons of great product that none blew away the market. It just depends what segment you’re looking at. The Tsi 3 looks to have it’s fans in the tour shape segment. The 425 Max is as forgiving as anything ever brought to market, the Sim 2 seems to have added a touch of forgiveness but kept impressive ball speeds, the TSI4 still requires a sensational strike and produces a knuckleball, the lst line got a touch heavy and slow, Cobra is officially competitive with the big boys, and There are 26 Callaway heads to chose from.

Awesome! I ended up buying a Mavrik used recently, but if I had bought new it would've been the Epic Speed or the Srixon ZX5. If I golf shops were open in my area, I would also try the TSi3 as well.

Coming from Mavrik, I've tested the ZX5, Mizuno STZ and X, Epic LS Max and Max, and played the TSi3, Epic Speed, and SIM2 Max.  The SIM 2 Max is currently in the 1 spot with the Speed anxiously awaiting another opportunity.  Others were good but I prefer a more muted feel.  I play (and like) the RDX Blue 6.0 60 in the SIM2 Max but have a Tensei Pro White 1k on the way.  I play the OG Smoke Black in the Speed but the Tensei 1k was great in that head as well.  As others mentioned, plenty of driver talk here, just search deeper.

OP here, thanks for the awesome feed back.  Sounds like the stuff you are using and have tried recently is exactly the stuff on my short list, shafts included.

To the person asking for Mizuno vs TM above, I have played 2016 M2, Sim Max, ST190, and ST200 over the past few years.  I think TM probably outperforms Mizuno on ball speed and distance.  I have had better control with the Mizuno's though, less off the planet misses.  TM probably still a better overall product if I'm being honest, but I have loved the look of Mizuno drivers recently and have been willing to to compromise a little on performance to get them in the bag.  Doesn't make that much of a difference at my level of golf.  They other thing I like about Mizuno is that the stock length is shorter, meaning I don't have to mess with weighting as much for my shorter builds.  Prefer a driver right at about 45 inches.

Really dig the elongated look of TSi2, just screams forgiveness to me.

Love the driver talk!

I had a SIM last year. Wanted something a tad more forgiving and better feel so I went to a SIM2. Nice club but for some reason the G425 lst caught my eye. Typical wrx fashion, tried it, bought it. G425 lst is just way more consistent for me and I'm only giving up 2 yards a drive.

My SIM2 will be on Facebook marketplace next week. Lol.

I really liked the ST190 and still have the head.  If I had time test different shafts in it I would.  Played the Ventus Blue 5s in it and did well but since sold the shaft (I needed a 60s).  I'd like to try the OG Smoke Black or RDX Blue in it.

The 7 is way good looking but the ZX5 is awfully pretty as well.

Every driver offering is a re-painted do-over from last year.

TSi2/TSi3

SIM2

Epic

G425

STZ/STX

All of these are clubs at the end of a design cycle. I'm switching from G410 to G425 because I'm a club whore and have no self-control, but for more disciplined people, it might make sense to sit out 2021. (Not that these aren't all great drivers. They're just not significant upgrades over the previous versions).

For me, I don't see any more driver buzz this year than in previous years because of the marginal if not stagnant increase in driver distance.  The last driver that had any noticeable buzz for me is the G400 Max and that is because of its superior forgiveness.
