How would you gap a ZX5/ZX7 combo set?

I had mine checked.  All lie angles good.  The 6i was one degree strong and the 7i two degrees strong.

You will likely find that loft for loft the ZX5 are a bit longer and higher.  Not dramatically but certainly noticeably.

You’ll have to adjust based on your delivery mechanics and resultant/desired ball flight but after a bunch of rounds and a lot of extra twilight balls, the lofts on my ZX5 (5-6) and ZX7 (7-PW) are:  24-28-32-36-41-47.

I have zx5 6i, 7-pw in zx7. There is a 5* difference between that and the 7i but I’m not seeing a huge difference at the moment. For some reason I hit the zx7 fairly well, I’m as long or longer with zx7 in equivalent short iron. Go figure.

From all my "fittings" the lofts are almost irrelevant!! Go hit them, and then tweak them to fit your gaps. I honestly think srixon nailed it with their cg placement, and that is why the lofts are different between sets.

I have been hearing that too. It’s almost like the loft numbers are not true in the sense that they still blend nicely because of that different CG that you mentioned

I cannot wait to swing these outside the confines of a fitting studio

im willing to bet if I hit these indoors, the zx7 would not have made the cut. Part of the magic of the club is the sole, at least for me.

See I haven’t had that experience yet but have only heard amazing things about the VT Sole. Is it that good?

It depends on your swing and how you deliver the club. Some guys don’t get along with it. Right now I’m a bit steep and I’m back to taking a reasonable divot, playing the ball towards the middle of my stance. I found I hit the narrower zx7 better than zx5 in the mid-short irons despite my swing still being inconsistent.

but if I was hitting off a mat, I likely would have felt the zx7 resulting in fat/heavy strokes. When I was fit indoors some years back was fit into i210. Since then I’ve bought 7i to test - did that with Mizuno and now Srixon. That way I can hit on grass over multiple sessions.

That’s an interesting method actually. It’s a good way to get fitted without mats. I just loved the feel of both the ZX5 and ZX7. Felt like there was no difference to me

I made my break at the 6i.  I am loving them right where they are.  Sure the gap between the 6i and 7i is there, but that is an easy gap to work through with your game.  On the other hand, the gap from my 5i to my first hybrid is perfect and those would be harder yardages for me to work through.
