Generation 3 P790 in 2021?

Really need to see these in person, looked great in my press shot above, but last pic shiny section is very gaudy. Can’t believe they are everywhere but no proper announcement or videos as yet.

In my fitting I was told they fly higher and spin slightly more than the prior generation. I have no data tho because I have not played the gen 2s

That’s interesting, I’m going to order the 4 and 5, 1 and 2 weak as per their spec for blending into the p770, but if they are flying higher and spinning more that might not be ideal. My current p790 gen 2 5 iron, flies 187 and lands softly. If the new ones fly higher AND spin more then I’ll be carrying it 180 and spinning it back if I get it 2 degrees weak also.

I presume it flies the same, but spin brings up flight a bit?

I should have been more specific - descent angle is steeper than previous gen. Not sure about launch

It appears TM has found the new high strength and more flexible face does not need a more dense, supportive speedfoam.  Hence the the less dense speedfoam AIR which has the main purpose of dampening the soundwaves inside the head.

Bottom line, more flex in the face yields a softer feel while the less dense speedfoam reduces sound vibrations sufficiently.

Tungsten in the lower toe of the 3 - 7 irons and none in the 8 - P helps with higher launch in the long/mid irons but helps keep the short irons lower.

Bad translation with Google, but it says the speadfoam air is 69% lighter. With the reduction, in the 7 iron for example, the tungsten went from 14g to 31g. Which is a lot. That's going to help launch I would think. Face is the thinnest they have used.

EDIT: Oops, it's just parroting the info from the TM JP link above. 😄

It’s all interesting enough, seems like much more changes than predicted, certainly not cosmetic only. Thinner faceplate, new lighter foam cone, double the tungsten in 7 irons. Surprised the lofts haven’t changed.

These are still very clicky.. I think even more so than previous gen 790s.

I’m hearing they feel and sound more like the 790Ti’s

Not that extreme. But to my ear and feel more clicky and firm.

Just tried them out today at our local shop. I play the zx7s, which in comparison these felt clicky. Reminded me somewhat of the new P770s. However, I gotta admit, hit the stock iron with the dg 105s (which I know is not for me) and I was cooking these maybe 10 yds longer than the previous version. Like others have said, they def fly higher and spin more, but the ball speed made up for it. Honestly, I wouldn’t get these as of right now bc I would have to re-gap my entire bag with these going further, but I do suggest them if you’re looking for a distance iron that looks more playerish. After playing mizzies and srixons the past few years, feel doesn’t compare…

Is it the lighting...I thought the word "Tungsten" was written under the area of P790...just can't see it in this pic?   This is a 7 iron?   8 - P do not have tungsten.

I don't notice the word Tungsten on these either...must be the lighting

what in the name of all that is holy is "clicky" ? Seriously , what a sound ? As one of my pals says "u r not good enough to know thatlevel expert GIF"

It is a noise really. A fair few blind tests have shown that it’s mostly what people hear that determines if they feel a club is ‘solid’ ‘soft’ etc. changing balls for instance changes  what ‘feels’ like a harsh clicky iron to a great feeling one for a lot of people. It’s why you get such a variation of what people think irons sound or play like. They hear them differently.

I’d agree with this especially the ball. If I go to a big box store I don’t even look at numbers and don’t pay much attention to feel because the golf balls are rocks.  Why don’t these places put some better balls out.
