Generation 3 P790 in 2021?

Taylormade has told fitters to use the old gen 2 p790 to fit for preorders of the gen 3 until the new fitting heads come in early august. Generally I would say late august on availability date for the new version.

Talked to a local friend yesterday who's a TM fitter for this area, said TM told him not to fit anyone with 2019 P790 for now. New one is coming out soon. Like someone said, thinner topline and slightly smaller, closer to P770. Didn't say much more else.

Theyve pulled the P790 custom orders this week. You'd think that would align within a week or two of the new release. If they're not accepting custom orders until fall when the new P790 is released, that would seem like a huge oversight.

I’d ordered a P790/P770 combo set with Nippon Modus Tour 120’s over here in the UK and found out last week that the P790 heads are due in 16th July…..but the shafts not until 20th October……which is just nuts.

P770 heads are ok but same thing for the shafts there. And the 3 Hi Toe Raw wedges are mid to end of August but no idea if the shaft (Same as the irons) is an issue there too.

So I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to change to Project X LZ shafts or just ditch the order full stop. Out of interest several of the larger on line golf retailers have removed all of the custom options for both TM and Cleveland wedges which suggests huge component issues and it’s getting worse, not better.

Doesn't quite align with the P790 being changed for the Uk market yet but, really, who knows?!

Might have to look at a ZX5/7 combo set instead I guess…..

For what it’s worth, I noticed today that both the black and regular P790’s are completely pulled from TGW and Golf Galaxy. The TI version only is still an option at GG.

We like P7MB - P7MC - P770 - P790 as a good transition.

Appreciate you getting back to me. I’m not into hallow body. I personally wish you would make a P7mc style just slightly bigger Srixon kills it with make players irons and making a slightly bigger to combo.
I was hoping for that one piece forged from Taylormade. You typically make a great iron.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for the GEN 3 P790. The new offerings from other OEM's besides Ping have been meh.

I’m looking forward to this release as well. I’ve never played TM irons but I like the look of the line. Not crazy about 790 feel but looks great. I’m interested in maintaining height but cutting some spin.

Agree on the feel. My 770's feel pretty identical to the P790's and I wish the face felt softer. More of a "true forged" feeling.

That's too bad

Coming from the 760, the 770 was NO replacement in my mind

hard, clicky and little feel - all very unlike the 760

oh well - over to other brands for now

790 still rocking for 4i though - look forward to trying new one

Heard today that the P790 Mk 3 are a certainty for Autumn release.

I'm now going to wait for that release and input my own specs ASAP for launch date here in the UK. Same for new MG3 wedges as well.

Was going P790/P770 combo but will have new P790's through the set for the new ones.

I booked in for a fitting last week with the p790s my favourable option.

The guy gave me 2 options: order the existing p790's and receive a free hybrid, or wait until sept for the newer model.

The demand for the model at the moment is still popular and in demand so because of that I would have to wait 6-7 weeks just for those.

I understand that Taylormade are now only making the heads to satisfy the already ordered clubs.

Gen 3 is inevitable and I can't wait to try them. Hopefully there is no noticeable change with the feel etc and maybe just a tweek like the change of 2017 to 2019.

September?! Looks like I’m going with the T200.
