Generation 3 P790 in 2021?

Not sure how the Gen 3's will work out but to date I'd be inclined to stick with the Milled Grind in a Gap too as you get a noticeable bit more control than off the 790's. Fantastic clubs, the only downside is they aren't generally the most precise for any kind of chipping as the ball comes off so fast.

Good point there, thank you.

I'm interested in getting a set myself and my club pro either knows nothing or is very good at playing dumb!

Most of the Shops in the UK are only just seeing the new P790 for themselves last week and this week…all depends on when their rep gets to them!!

Most Pro’s will have already pre-booked stock for next year anyway so they will know something is coming but may not yet have seen it!!

I managed to get a glimpse of the pics from a retailer who saw them last week but I wasn’t allowed the pics for myself!

How did it look?

There’s people who love the look of the P770 but wish they were a bit more forgiving and slightly bigger

That’s my understanding of what they look like but have you sen them Nick?

Golf PT told me my sometimes low back pain usually caused by lack of hip rotation (makes sense). Not sure that’s your cause but the more you can turn your hips the less the back has to rotate lol.

My back has been bad for awhile. It wasn't golf where I hurt it, but continuing to play didnt make it any better. Between the chiropractor, stretching, the half moon thing I lay on, a theragun,  a heating pad, a sciatic nerve cream, a back support on my office chair, an adjustable desk, and a new mattress, my back feels better than it has in 10 plus years. Lol quite a bit to go thru, but to be honest just the quality of life upgrade has been well worth it. For literally 10 years straight my back has hurt and for the last couple weeks my back has been amazing. Lol sorry to hijack the thread.

has anyone bent the irons weak? Played some Wilson F5s with traditional lofts and they were a revelation. I do launch the P790s low even though they generally should launch higher. Thinking of 1 or 2 weak.

Then "Photos?" would have been the correct posting.

So I was at the range Monday afternoon and a TM staffer pulled up to hit balls. He definitely had the 4I of these in the bag as it was bigger than and slightly aesthetically different from the P770 but definitely had the wording P790 on it.

I'm not so sure about that, usually a 7 iron sample is used to show limited large $$ volume accounts early before any staffer has one, I can attest to this.

That being said, my rep in a large metro area in the states informed me he has not seen it nor has he been shipped a sample product or head of the NEW P790. US reps will be seeing for the first time in a few weeks, coinciding with the national sales meeting late July.   Fitting heads & samples will be arriving during that time or upon return after the meeting.

I suspect you'll see the first leaked photo come mid July 10-19 th

I also believe it will be a larger P770 looking head

Do you really think "your rep in a large metro area" has more access than a TM staffer lol?

110% sure. A staffer can be an assistant pro at a muni. There is nothing too special about a staffer he or she agrees via contract to play/wear and promote a branded product. I was staffer for tm and a staffer for adidas a couple of years ago, I don't even have PGA accreditation, I don't teach, i didn't even work at a golf course....but I was on staff and signed a contract and received the same program as others.

Yeah. This makes sense as it seems like anybody with an Instagram account or YouTube channel can get some sort of contract with a club maker these days.

I have no idea how you would go about getting that. But that would be more of a seeding program thru marketing, not as a staffer. Seeding programs usually come well after the release dates of products.

Sales reps get the sample first to sell and pre-line with their A-level dealers first well ahead of the release date or general availability. National accounts, Dicks, golfer warehouse, PGA superstore, etc,  their buyers are seeing the product by now and have a signed non disclosure at this point.

No, Whistling Straits. I’m not sure if it was a new model P790 or not, it just didn’t look like the prior version and definitely didn’t note 770 from a 10-15 ft away.

Thanks for that. Can’t see how these flow any better in to 770s. I have the p790 4 and 5 irons to blend in with my 770s but it’s tricky enough. They are a little longer and hotter but don’t land soft enough for me, I fiddled with lofts and length but it was easier to blend in a couple of shortened dhys. I’ve since replaced even the 4 dhy to go back to my 818h 21 hybrid set to 22.

If the blend in looks is very good then I might look at getting just a 6 or even 6/7 in p790, as the lofts aren’t as speed there.

You’re the only person I’ve heard talk about shortening the DHY. I have a 4i and I shortened it to my normal 4i length, with is +1/2 standard, or 39”. I’ve had an odd go of it so far. It’s certainly forgiving but I’m starting to thing I don’t do well with fat soles. I’m also wondering if I find it a bit odd because I shortened it. What say you?
