Wedding ring issues...

Recommended Posts

After years of switching back-and-forth between regular size and midsize grips I have recently discovered that when I take my wedding ring off using a midsize grip it actually properly fits in my hand.  Over the past couple years I have tried different grips and different styles of grips in midsize regular when I say style I mean WINN, leather, etc. I had recently switched to Lamkin midsize UTX grips and they just felt a little large in my left hand even though they should feel perfect.  On a whim I took my wedding ring off which I don’t normally do and grip the club and it felt perfect. Took a couple swings and felt more connected. hit a couple balls and felt more “controlled “. It looks like I will be taking my wedding ring off to play a full round this weekend to see how it goes. I should make a note that I had to change my wedding ring after losing 100+ pounds and ended up going with a alot thicker of a ring as opposed to my thin gold band that I previously wore when I played and had no problems.

When I first took up golf, and for the longest time, I took off my watch and wedding ring before play.  They just bothered me, but for the life of me, can't say exactly why.  I removed my wallet and emptied my pockets, and kept 1 tee, ball marker and repair tool.  My clinical friends said it was OCD and minor autism.  Which ever it was, I eventually got past it and still wearing my wedding ring and using TV Align with wraps.

I never wear my wedding ring for golf, or when I'm with my girlfriends. It's just always what I've done

For golf it just feels weird to me. I don't know how some guys do it.

This right here.  My wedding ring comes right off before a round of golf.  It rubs against my gloves and make holes in them not to mention how uncomfortable it feels.  How do you manage to juggle a wife and all those females, MtlJeff?

I’m the exact same. Wedding band and watch off and nothing in pockets except a tee, pitch mark repair, and ball marker. Even those items bother me but they’re kind of the bare essentials. Although No one has ever called me OCD or autistic.

I used to take my wedding ring off when I played until I got a silicone wedding band. I am in construction and my gold wedding band was dangerous and uncomfortable. Silicone is the way to go. I have a GrooveLife band that has a lifetime replacement warranty. It actually broke this week and I have another one on the way. You will hardly no you are wearing it.

I'm wearing mine atm.  It's still uncomfortable to lift weights and golf with it on.  It comes off as well.

I used to use an interlock grip, but since being married I switch to traditional because my ring bugged me. I know if I take it off, it's gone forever. So I deal

Get a silicone wedding ring.  Problem solved.

I actually don't even notice my titanium wedding ring at any point while I golf, so I just leave it on.  But I'm 50/50 between that ring and a silicone ring (you can buy a pack of different colors on Amazon for a few bucks) due to my hands-on job where it's not safe to wear a metal ring.

I only take my wedding ring off for lifting weights. And really only because I don't want to ding it or scratch it up unnecessarily. I don't really notice it on while golfing.

But as PepperTurbo mentioned above, I'm the same in that I can't wear a watch while golfing.

Same here. My gold ring never bothered me in terms of feel, but when playing (especially in the summer) my hands/fingers would swell up ever so slightly and my ring would get uncomfortably tight. Bought a 4 pack of slim silicone rings off amazon and now have no issues. They have wayyyy more give than a metal ring so my fingers can swell a bit without causing any discomfort.

Just an FYI, if you go the silicone route make sure to find thinner/slimmer ones as it sounds like this worked for you in the past with your previous band. 90% of the silicone ones on the market are these large, thick monstrosities that would not be good for golf.

Silicone is the answer as others have mentioned.  When I wear the silicone ring while golfing I don't even feel it.  Wearing my tungsten band was very noticeable and uncomfortable.

I wore a silicone ring for a while but they kept tearing so I just made myself get use to the metal.  After hitting fungo for a season with it on, swinging a golf club is no issue.

I haven't taken my wedding ring off for about 20 years.  Never notice it.

Now you guys have me looking at it I'm not sure I could get it off if I had to.  It would definitely take some sort of lubricant.

Put me in the group that can't do watches or a ring as well (for what its worth I wear a silicone as I have zero faith in not marring the band). I safely stow them in my truck and lock it when I arrive at the course. Pockets are fairly empty as well. Wallet goes in my bag, phone in the truck, and all that's left are divot tool, tee, quarter, and glove in my back left pocket.

For me, the silicone was a gateway to not wearing a ring at all. Maybe being married for 23, I think,  years has something to do with it. Or maybe it's the "I think" that's the cause...

Ahh...  I think my gold band is 6mm.  Does not bother me at all while playing golf.  No issues with gloves either.  As to it getting dinged or whatever, I bough the super plan when buying the ring so it goes in once a year and gets fixed of all that stuff.  Now the pockets...  Yeah, pitch tool with ball marker in the right pocket and an extra ball in the left pocket.  Tees are in my push cart or tucked under the band of my hat.  I do wear an apple watch while golfing, and it does bother me sometimes, but I deal with it since it tracks the round.
