Stick with Super hybrid or get fit for a fairway wood

Gave up on my EF SZ 3w and started gaming a super hybrid instead. Still figuring it out off the deck but good tee club. Going for a driver fitting tomorrow and now contemplating a FW fitting as well to have a more versatile toolset. Golfsidekick suggests high cappers learning to use a fw over low loft hybrids so I am torn. Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

Recently switched from a Super Hybrid to a 7W. Super Hybrid is a GREAT club, especially if you struggle with fairways. However, I spend a ton of time working on hitting fairways better and saw results, so I switched out of it. Thus, my opinion is this, if you are a good fairway player, switch. If average, or below, stick with the Super Hybrid, and optimize the shaft for what you're looking for. I had great results with the Ventus Blue 10X in mine.

If you couldn't hit the previous 3W and you can't hit your 2 hybrid, what are the chances you'll be able to hit the next 3W?  I'd work on your swing and keep the equipment the same.  I game a 3w and 2H and use both off the tee and off grass for what its worth.

Thanks. There was a time i could hit a FW (3w and 5w) but then got kinda fit to the SZ and lost all confidence.

 Gotcha.  3W is definitely a club that stays once you find the right one.  I just replaced my Sonartec from 2001 hahaha.

Consider a higher lofted fairway wood. Off the deck a 5 wood is gonna be easier to hit, nearly as long (longer on mishits), and hold greens better.

why switch, there is no advantage of gettting rid of your Super Hybrid. I own the same hybrid and it is multi functional, great off the fairway and perfect to tee off with as well.

I have both 3 metal and 2 hybrid in my bag.  I actually find the hybrid a lot easier to hit in general and I'm a low cap.  Swing is on the shallow side.  I find that a shallow swing is a must for fairway metals.  For hybrid either shallow or steep work.

I've spent the last few seasons trying to find a 3wd I could consistently launch off the turf. I tried all of the shallow face fairways I could find (G400, G410, Epic Flash, Mavrik, TS2, etc), they would work ok on the range, but I could never launch them consistently when I needed to. Somehow I ended up with a Cobra Speedzone Tour 3w in my bag this year, and for whatever reason I am able to launch it with ease. On paper, all the shallow faced fw's should work better for me, but the Speedzone Tour just gets the job done. Moral of the story is sometimes it never hurts to think outside the box!

IMHO, the advantage of the Super Hybrid is the shorter shaft compared to fairway woods. The same reason so many here still love the Cobra F6 baffler.

 

The disadvantage is that the smaller head launches lower and is less forgiving than a fairway head.

 

I'd do the fitting, but ask to try a Callaway fairway head with your current Super Hybrid shaft.
