Hello!

Group of buddies interested in a Golf Trip within 5 hours of ATL GA.

Not Hilton Head we have been there.

Currently looking at:

•Southern Pines NC (Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Tobacco Road)

•RTJ Capitol Hill (Judge, Legislator, Senator)
•Crossville TN: Stonehenge, Bear Trace?

Any suggestions?

Of these three I'd choose the first (NC trip). Variety makes the best type of golf trip in my opinion, and to me if you've played one RTJ course you've played them all so not sure I'd want to do an entire trip at one site (like Capitol Hill). If you do decide to go RTJ I'd suggest going to Birmingham over Montgomery. In Birmingham, Oxmoor Valley (RTJ) is a bit bland, but Ross Bridge (RTJ) is easily the best course on the trail, and you can play FarmLinks (non-RTJ) while you're there (about 40 minutes from B'ham but well worth the drive).

There are some decent courses in Crossville, but none are worth making a "golf trip" out of in my opinion.

Wherever you go just make sure to check the maintenance schedule. May/June is prime aeration time at most of these courses.

Bertram Realty in Crossville, TN can help you book stay and play packages in either Crossville or Tellico Village. They’re super easy to work with and affordable.

I was part of a 20-man group on a trip to Crossville this spring. Played Stonehenge, Heatherhurst and Bear Trace and enjoyed them all. Primo conditioning everywhere.

The Tellico Village alternative would also be good. Play two or three courses there and add Rarity Bay (Bertram can set it all up).

i'd stay away from rtj oxmoor/alabama for the summer ... valley is closed for new greens ... ridge is 'more fun', and a very decent track, but it's bent greens will look like the moon's surface come july ... i'd go to the pinehurst area, or virgina, even ... if not, drive straight south to streamsong ... be hot as hell, but that's quality golf in the summer, given the price ...

and the valley, boring? ... nonsense! ... has the 2nd highest slope rating on the trail from the 7100 yd range ... thorough examination of your golf game ... you need the ability to bend it both ways, more so than the ridge or ross bridge, e.g 1st & 3rd holes, immediately, call for a draw & hard fade, respectively ... greens are angled from the fairway, requiring thought on the drive or layup ... true redan template on the 4th hole, Great Hazard hole on the 9th, and enough short-cuts on the back par fives to make it available or penal ... par 4s are a not the spiciest, but the 3s/5s are very solid ... need to come back down (presumably) and play it again after October ...
