KBS Tour 90 S Shafts VS NS Pro 950 GH

Hey guys quick Question, I recently swopped shafts out of my Mizuno JPX900 Forged irons to the KBS Tour 90. They came stock OEM with the NS Pro950. I didn't get fitted and just trusted my fitters opinion. I'm a naturally lower ball flight/trajectory and lower spin type of hitter due to my more sweeping swing. I also have a pretty smooth swing. My driver and fairway woods I hit well but struggle a bit with my irons due to my swing type and not hitting down on the ball as much. I was looking/hoping the KBS Tour 90 would help me get a higher trajectory and more spin as many times with my 7, 8, 9, PW from 120-160 yards out I will hit the green but the ball will roll too far past the flag, leaving a longer putt or even rolling onto the fringe or sometimes a bit further.

I tried my irons today with the KBS Tour 90's installed and noticed a slightly lower ball flight but.. more accurate and tighter dispersion (wasn't slicing or shot shaping as much and more direct straight flight). Distances tended to be a bit off as well but I'm not sure if that's because their brand new and need to break them in/loosen them up a bit, adjust my swing speed/tempo/transition, or the use of range balls.

Also one of my friends mentioned KBS Max iron shafts? anyone know much about or tried those and how they differ from the Tour 90s?

Sorry to bother you guys, any input or experiences would be much appreciated.

I’m surprised your fitter moved you to the KBS shaft as the Nippon is typically higher launching than the KBS Tour 90. If you struggle with flight (as I do) Nippon is the best shaft IMHO.

If you are super weight sensitive you might get slightly higher flight from the KBS MAX, but you may not need to do that. Remember, the KBS Tour 90 is only 90 grams in regular flex. In stiff it is a 102 gram shaft and is stiffer than the Nippon 950. The 950 to me feels whippier.

That said, I really like the Tour 90 stiff in that weight range and despite launch difference, If one of these fits you the other should too. I have hit the KBS several times and find it delivers nice carry and feels tight. It’s not a low launching shaft, but it is a different design than the Nippon. You may want to trust the fitter and give it some time. If you’re getting proper carry, the ball is stopping and they’re accurate, go with it.

I believe the R flex is 95g if I remember right. I should be in the S flex but the R gave me better height, distance and accuracy. Kbs 90 is a great shaft.

Yeah I saw that the Tour 90 R is 95g and S is 102g. The S feels super stiff to me. Would you say that the KBS R is like a NS Pro S?

So my fitter and I decided to try and soft stepping the shafts and change the swing weight (progressive D1.5 5iron->D3.5 PW) on my kbs tour 90 and mizuno jpx900 forged iron heads. Hopefully softening the shaft and changing swing weight some will help me get the launch and feel I’m looking for. Will give it a go on Thursday out on the course.

Also have any of you guys tried the KBS Max 85? Thoughts/experiences? Thanks 🙏🏼

i hit the 75  few times

plays softer than the  TGI  70 shafts  by a good bit

if the flex suits should be fine, they are more user friendly than the TGIs which to me play very stable.more than the flex they represent
