Steve Elkington's book "Five Fundamentals of Golf" has one of the best written instruction on the grip.

 

He mention "if he had to have one operation done to improve my golf, I'd have the Doctor sew my forefingers to my thumbs".Pic below shows it as Monte describes - no gap in that V (on either hand actually). In the book he shows a black marker pen dot on his thumb - to the side of the thumb, which is where that thumb makes contact with the grip.... NOT the ball of the thumb (again, see below)

I do the same as that video, had an instructor once tell me to wrap it around the club... felt so uncomfortable.

Saw this Johnny Miller lesson series the other night. so i pass on the info regarding grip and right thumb. 

 

 

 

The first 4 minutes are the ones for grip, so check there.  He does mention specifically the right thumb and the location options and results. The long right  thumb down the shaft vs the right thumb wrapped around the shaft do give different results.

 

Johnny mentions John Daly and Daly's right thumb position, wrapped round the shaft.  I tried this and found good drives for that day.  No problem adjusting as it's all in the set-up, not in the  motion.  Anyway, Johnny's discussion of grip technique and the shots that we see are interesting.
