TSI3 DRIVER

Gents:

I recently got the TSi3 driver.  I have had a really hard time getting the swingweight/feel of this to be what I want.  I'm coming from a Sim with Ventus Velocore Blue 6x.  I ordered the TSi3 with the stock RDX shaft in 6.5 flex at 45".  I asked for D4 swingweight.  I also told them that most likely I'd be putting the Ventus in this and playing it at 44.75".  Titleist told my pro that it would make the swingweight go to 4.5 which I was fine with but questioned this as the Ventus is 68 grams and RDX is 60.  The driver arrived with a blue +4 weight and I couldn't feel the head at all since it was so light with the Ventus in it.  Took it to Club Champion and they said it was D1.  If I add two strips of lead tape I got it up to D4 but still doesn't feel 100% how I'd like it.  I called Titleist and spoke to Warranty/Repair and they said they would send out another weight.  I was told the red weight was the one I needed but the Titleist guy said the blue one is the heaviest they offer.  Again, I'm coming from TM drivers and haven't played a Titleist driver since the 983k.  The weight arrives and it is the same blue one I have.  Ugh.  I call and they send out a red one the 2nd time.  I put the red one in along with the blue one but now it is too heavy.  Anyone else have a hard time getting theirs dialed in?  Thoughts on what to do?  Should I order a different weight from Billy Bobs?  If yes, which one?   Thanks in advance for your input.

I needed to increase my TSi3 swing weight but had to be careful with adding weight to the weight port because it was upping my spin too much. I'm waiting for a shaft to come in the mail but will be playing mine with no weight in the back but add a tip weight to get my swing weight up to what I prefer it to be. Hit it well on sim and felt great that way so going to give it a try.

There’s quite a large tolerance of “stock” head weights too, like 5 grams...184g - 189g unweighted. That’s ~3 SW points +/-. But if you specified SW on the order Titliest should grab components to make it such — always have for me.

For reference, I play a 44.75” finished length TSi3 10* with the AV RAW White 75g shaft, a -4g weight, a 51g std grip, and it comes out at 330g total weight and C8 SW. I like shaft heavy clubs, opposite you. In my setup, a +4g weight would only take this up to D2. For D4, I’d need dual track weights or a lot of hotmelt. My head is 186g unweighted so it’s roughly in the middle of the tolerance band of what I’ve measured and seen reported. Having one of the heaviest heads I’ve seen would help, but even then it might barely make the high D3 range with my shaft and grip.

Your shaft, uncut, is a bit lighter than mine. I don’t know how they balance out at 44.75” but assuming same balance point for sake of argument, the  lighter shaft means lower SW and needing even more head weight than my example to get the SW where you want it to be. You might be into hotmelt territory to get this to your number. Just watch for total weight too — don’t let that get away from you. Do you know what that was in the Sim setup you had?

Go too your Pro Shop, get the swing weight checked with blue and red, clarify how it feels hitting balls at d2,d3,d4 and see what feels ok too you.Ya cant guarantee you will like it at say d3,d4,d5. Sadly, thats golf.

Thanks for the replies.  Our pro shop doesn't have a swing weight scale.  With just the blue weight and not lead tape it is D1.  I guess I will be stuck using lead tape.  Just hate to have to do that on a brand new driver.  I'm hesitant to use hot melt because I don't want it to change the feel/sound at impact to be too much of a thud.  That was one of the things I liked better about this driver over the Sim was the sound/feel at impact.

Lead tape does suck but you have another option.  You could send out your TSi3 head to a place that can add hot melt.  Just specify to the builder/fitter, what you want the total head weight to be so your driver swing weight comes out to D4.  Will Peoples can help you.  He's always done an excellent job for all my builds.

Yeah I've thought about hot melt but like I said, I don't want it to change the sound/feel of the club to be too much of a thud feeling.  I have an email into Billy Bob's about ordering a different weight to see if that might solve it.

Who cares when you're hitting 300+yard bombs off the tee?  Naw, I get what you're saying.  Feel and sound are important too.  Maybe not to the extent of results, but still important.

Haha.. the "feel" part for me is what provides the feedback to know when you hit a good one or not.  You know?  I love the TSi- just really want to get it dialed in.

We are fundamentally dealing with a light-ish head that was designed to be “standard” swing weight at 45.5” length. Cut off 3/4” and we are loosing 4-5 SW points from that standard starting point. +4g weight will only get 2 SW points back so it’s gonna be dual weights, lead tape or holt melt.

Try what @RogerinNewZealandsaid. With so many different shaft balance points these days, head weights, grip weights, etc., it reinforces SW as an arbitrary calculation. Total weight is much more important. Just see what results you get at different weights before you get a mental block that it has to be D4.

Yes I agree 100%.  I'm not stuck on D4 at all.  I just know what feels right and what doesn't.  Hard to explain but it just feels "off" in terms of what I am looking for.

Very true.  My cousin has an OG SIM with hot melt.  I always ask him when we play if he hit it solid.  He tells me he doesn't know because it feels different from his old TM RBZ.  The only way he can tell is if it hits a certain apex window/range and it gets out there 260 or so.

Update- I spoke to Billy Bob's and they suggested I use the 16 gram weight and that should get me between D3-D4.  So I ordered one and I will update once I receive it.  Won't have it in time for my Pinehurst trip this weekend but I'll just use lead tape for that.  Thx again for your suggestions.

I had a similar issue with a 913D3 head years ago.  Got some lead tape, added it a bit at a time until I found a feel I liked that led to most consistent contact, pulled tape and weighed on kitchen scale, then had it hit melted with equivalent amount.  As a bonus, it sounded even better post hot melt.  Cost was about $15 or so.

I tried this but only had either 2 blue weights which are both +4 or one blue and one red.  It was way too heavy.

As was stated above : you’re really just guessing here.

If you want exactly d4 it’s easy enough to figure out how to get there with a swingweight scale.

But is d4 going to be right fur you? Just because it was in another driver doesn’t necessarily mean it is with this one.

Take a roll of lead tape with you to the range and keep adding or taking strips of tape on & off till you find a weight you like. Take it someone that can swing weight it. Then get the correct weight.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.
