Golf Glove or not

Recommended Posts

Do you wear a golf glove or not and if you wear a glove then why? I put new comfortable grips on my clubs and for what they cost and how they feel I no longer wear a glove. I shoot the same score without a glove as I did with a glove. I think wearing a glove is a waste of money. I think people wear gloves just because they see Pros wearing them who get them for free. I could see wearing a glove long ago when grips weren't nice but todays grips are so comfortable why cover up the good feel of the grip with a glove.

I used to wear gloves in better times in the past, then the 2008 recession hit and couldn't really spare any cash to buy gloves so I played without them.  Been doing that ever since...

I've always worn a glove, started playing when I was young and have worn gloves since my hands were big enough to fit them. I prefer aggressive corded grips compared to the softer squishy ones, and I compress the ball a lot with my irons. I prefer not having my hands stinging and torn to smithereens after a poor strike.

I live in Alabama. It’s 95+ degrees from June through August with 75%+ humidity and heat indexes above 100 degrees. In other words, it’s really damn hot. If I didn’t wear a glove, I’d probably lose a club at some point. I alternate 2-3 per round. At the very least, it keeps my grip pressure from being overly heavy.

I do take it off for touch shots around the green, flip wedge shots that are mostly feel, and putting, obviously. I’m not a heathen.

I was getting a little disappointed with the various gloves I seemed to wear through a little too quickly. Then on a whim I got some Finger Ten gloves for like $8 each. Wow, these things are not only soft, but durable. Seriously, I was blown away. Amazon has them.

Since i switched to Jumbomax grips, I find it’s pretty comfortable to hit without a glove, but still feel more secure with one. I don’t think anyone plays with a glove just because the pros wear them, it’s a simple matter of functionality & grip security, especially in humid climates. In Utah where I live, I could live without one, not so much when I play in Houston.

I hate playing with a glove on. But as I’ve reached my 60’s the back of my hand has terrible sun damage. It’s the only part of my body I don’t protect from the sun with clothing or sunscreen. So I make myself wear a glove in the summer and I try to wear one as often as I can stand it the rest of the year.

The glove drives me crazy but not as bad as trying to wear sunscreen on my hand and have it get on my grips.

I wear two gloves and don't understand why people only wear one glove.  Maybe it was a cost thing back in the day that has now become tradition I guess.  Why would you want one hand to have max grip while they other hand doesn't?  No gloves makes more sense to me than one glove!  I am also bottom hand dominant and so I want that hand to have max grip and leverage on the club.

I used to wear a glove and like many others, sweat a lot, was always worried about grip.

Changed to leather grips and haven't worn a glove since (well over a year ago).

Now I can swing away knowing that grip isn't an issue

I also found I was having to hold the club tighter to have any sense of security. Tensing my wrists and forearms didn't make for good results. Leather grips have alleviated this feeling.

I don't need to wear one but i prefer to. A lot depends on the grips i have at that time...My current ones (Crossline midsize) are really tacky and comfortable for me without a glove.

I still wear one though because midsummer can be bad when it gets so hot.

My hands don’t sweat.  I didn’t realize this was an odd thing until my kid started  playing. His hands are clammy all the time.  So much so that we got him some medication cream for it.  I constantly put lotion on mine to keep them from cracking.

so I wear a glove sometimes and sometimes not.  I practice daily and usually don’t put one on unless it’s driver I’m swinging.   And during a round I don’t like to wear one for wedge or feel shots.  And never around the greens. It’s off as soon as I hit the approach whether I’m putting or not.    I also get about 3 months or so out of a glove. Lol.  And never have more than 1 at a time.   It always amazed me these folks with 4 drying off a cart.  I thought they were just weird.  Apparently some folks hands sweat that much.  I cannot imagine

No glove = no love.

Wear on one for full shots, take it off between shots and in side 50.

I have to be honest not sure if it really provides any function except when moisture is an issue, but I have been doing it for 20 years and it feels really weird not to use one. I also can't get comfortable hitting the ball without a ball cap on.

This is me. I've lived in a desert all my life and a glove is a necessity due to sweaty hands. I take it off for chipping and putting.
