Swing speed increase

Hi 

I just recently got fitted into some Taylormade 770 Irons from 4 to p and saw a big Jump in distance and speed etc.  

Played mizuno 919 forged before with Nippon 105 in x-flex where my 7 iron was around 91-92mph

With the new Irons the fitter for fun had me try some kbs tour 130x, wich are very heavy compared to what i normally play and and my 7 iron speed went up to 96-97, without me feeling i swung any harder at all and much better smashfactor/ballspeed on average

 

Was just wondering, if the same thing could be possible with a driver, if i tried a much heavier shaft ? My swing speed with driver is 111-114 normally and can get it Up to 116-117, but without any control, and way worse contact = normally goes Shorter, if i try to really go after one, unless im lucky with the strike

 

Im playing a titleist tsi3 9 degree with a x-stiff tensei white, wich is around 68 gram i belive, without having looked it up

It very well could and you should absolutely try it.  Often the masses are fed clubs within the same spec range because they are " safe" and most never hit clubs that stray from those specs.  I found that I am a heavy swing weight and total weight player and that only  came from me venturing out and giving them a try. In my opinion each golfer should swing the heaviest club that they can as that will provide the most mass applied to the ball at impact.  Yes there will be a point of diminishing returns but you have to figure out that point.  I added 100 grams (50 grams to the club head and 50 because of heavier grips) to all of my clubs and 110 grams to my driver (60 grams to the club head and 50 because of heavier grips) to find my fit and I'm glad that I went against the grain because I always wondered why I hated off the rack clubs lefty but they were just fine when I played right handed.  I create much more leverage left handed and that required a completely different club setup. 

 

I think what you will be surprised to find is that the closer you get to your fit, the more efficient you will be in regards to strike and creating leverage speed, and power.  You will also see that losses in club speed will not be as dramatic as many make them seem until you truly approach your limit.  Adding a few grams to a club is insignificant for the most part until they are added around your limit and that is why I say when you test that you should go to and extreme to find that limit and then begin backing off until you find your perfect fit.  My  clubs are 100 grams heavier than standard and yet my swing speed only dropped about 1 mph and yet I am way more efficient because I am better in tune with the rhythm of the club now so I actually hit it better and the added weight created more ball speed.  Best of luck on your journey.
