sorry, I clicked the wrong article. Have heard it was sold. KPS Capital Partners has signed a definitive agreement, through an affiliate, to sell TaylorMade Golf Company, Inc., to Centroid Investment Partners, a Seoul, Korea based private equity firm.

On a serious note, if this article pans out to be true, this is huge. Foreign equity firm buying one of the American Big 3 golf equipment manufacturers.

 

Only thing that would make it spicier is if it went to a Chinese or Saudi-based firm.

will be interesting to see what happens. Will the micromanage or will the let them run free... With it being Korean based company will they go for a more Asian high end offering? Or stick with what they have been doing. This could be very interesting or be some dark days for Taylormade..

If an investment firm is acquiring a company, doesn't that imply they are intending to spruce it up and flip it to someone for more money?  I wonder how this effects their day to day operations.

Despite having no working knowledge about how any of this work, I would speculate that KPS is trying to cash in on all the growth that golf has experienced in the last year or so and anticipate that it will at least slow and level off as the global pandemic coms to and end. So.. sell high??

So we should most likely see more of the same from them? Not a huge TM guy myself, but there's no debating that market share of theirs. They must have been doing something right.

My understanding is that TM was purchased roughly 4 years ago for that very reason and being flipped now at a premium.  With SIM and the P series irons, TM has been crushing it.  Very curious to see the effects of another sale...

Most of these PE funds have a ~ten year life and investments are only meant to be held for 4-7 years unless something goes seriously sideways.
