Matthew Wolff Withdrawal....

Too much, too fast. Find the agent that put him in this position! Matt was overexposed from the start. The quirky covid events, advertising, etc., too much for any player, especially someone young like him. You can't just release a young man into this world that preys on the "flav of the day". Matt is an amazing talent, but needs to get away from some folks and remember what got him there in the first place. I also read that he became a Christian, so it would be nice for the guys like Webb Simpson, etc. to get hold of him and help him put things into perspective. So many temptations on tour, yes the lonliness, and the pressures of sponsors at every turn. There's still hope, but he needs to make some changes and adjustments.

Disagree, he gotta go kill!

MW gotta just settle down for a few, have a few dinners at Moms.

Then go full Tony Montana!

He got the skills, just go after it, all guns blazing

Tiger style!

LOL! That’s because he was your boss and that was his job. This is an internet golf forum and people will often type fast and free and I feel it’s a fairly casual environment. Big difference between this and your job! Also you had previously called me a dull knife for not picking up on your sarcasm. So yeah, I stick by the statement that you were indeed kinda being a d*ck. That said, It was immature and I lost my temper. Hence why I went back and changed it to just saying that you have a tendency to demean people when they make innocent mistakes on an INTERNET GOLF FORUM. “Recover and not need counseling???” 😂 I’m a 49yo man that definitely doesn’t need, or want your “life lessons.”

I apologize if you took as demeaning. That was never the intent. My humor is esoteric sometimes.

bought out by private equity.

Honestly seems like he just hit a wall... Happens in all tour players career and it's just the mental hurdle for them to get over... Similar to what Speith and Rickie is going through... Just need time to figure it out.

All speculation at this point, but if he is indeed moving closer to college, and doing to hang with the boys, he's not mentally ready for adult life and wants to replicate the life where there was really no responsibilities.

My read on him from seeing him interact during that charity match, which is worth absolutely nothing, is that nobody on tour really wants to hang out with him. It didn't appear to me like any of those other guys playing with him respected him much.  Him buying a house near his old campus to hang out with college kids kind of jives with that. He probably misses the Golf Team atmosphere where you have a built in crew to hang with. Out on tour, there are no teammates. You're at the mercy of your own personality when it comes to friendships. There are no mandated teammates. He might just have that personality that's off putting, but you can't really explain why? The kind of guy that never gets invited to anything and everyone is real careful not tell which bar you're going to after the round.

I hope for his sake it's just an injury and/or a rough patch adjusting to golf as a job

If you're interested, I think Ferguson can put you in touch with Liz at Millennial Life Counseling, Full disclosure: I think he's getting referral fees now.

I tried booking a session with her but she said no because I’m not a Millennial… So just gonna drink Coronas until the pain goes away! 😂

OMG I thought that whole thing was a joke, but she's legit selling counseling to millennials.

Oh hopefully my comment doesn't make someone cry... SMH

Pshaw! Just self identify as a millennial.

Is Millenial just the placeholder term for young and dumb now LOL? I believe the majority of Millenials are in their 30's now, some of them are actually 40+ and the youngest are 27.

I haven't read all the thread i just know Matthew Wolff is 22 --he's no millenial!

It absolutely is for some. Generally, it is used by boomers or older. Gens X, Y, and Z tend to pick out the differences much more.

You're absolutely correct, Wolff is too young to be a millenial; he's Gen Z

To all the boomers out there ready to criticize millennials remember boomers birthed millennials into this world.  In other words, way to go boomers.

If he bought a house near OSU campus, he’s probably doing his best to hold onto this and it’s not going well. Pure speculation but he could be getting schooled for his $ by his still OSU student girlfriend as he’s on the dorky side and they haven’t gone out very long. He’’s got loads and loads of pictures of her on his Instagram a quick Google search will show... I can’t imagine anyone making the big show and then running back to  college for any other reason. Or maybe he hates the life...there aren’t many safe spaces on the road for millennials.

ITT: a bunch of salty old boomers hypothesizing wildly about why a guy who is a million times better than them at their favorite activity is a weak millennial snowflake. Absolute top notch WRXing, guys.

oh and also a few dudes having a scrap about grammar, which is kind of funny

This is a good take. I came here hoping to get some actual dirt on the kid 🤣

I honestly wish him well. End of the day he's a real person, just like all of us.

LOL it's OK i get it --My former boss was funny on this topic too, used to complain about all of these millennials we were hiring out of school for a certain position. I don't think we hired a millenial in the last few years i was there. The whole team was <25.

Millenial has just become the term people use to make a point about younger generations. I am a millenial and i'm 39 and worked in management there LOL

I am right there with you and still hate that I am technically a millenial when I am really an old grump lol

That transition from college to "real life" daily grind is legit, and no joke.  Takes time to find that balance and come to a routine and understanding of purpose of life after debatably the most carefree and enjoyable time in most peoples lives.  Add in the constant travel and isolating lifestyle of the PGAT,  for sure have empathy for Wolff and they are enormous changes for most people, let alone a 22 year old.

Sung Jae Im seems to be handling it without issue.
