Cracked shaft - I'm SOL right?

Went to the range for the first time in a while and when I got to my driver just did not have any pop.  My 3 wood was carrying as far or further.  I just thought I was rusty and the 70TX was too stout all of a sudden.  I take the club out to clean today and noticed this.  

 

It definitely looks cracked right?  And it's too high to tip 2" and still be playable?   Bottom line...SOL?

How old is the club?  Where did you buy it from?  Unless you slammed the club into the ground in anger, or your bag slammed into something, I think you may be able to get a replacement.  They aren't really supposed to break there from normal use.

Welp I'm pretty sure I got the shaft from the classifieds here - wasn't an order or anything. So I really don't know how old.  And no, no slams or hosel rockets.  Clubs have just been sitting in my garage since late 2019.

You likely are SOL then, but you could appeal to the company's goodwill.  Go into it knowing they don't owe you anything(and let them know that is your attitude), and you may be surprised.  They may be willing to work with you.

 

ETA:  Looking at the picture, is there a scratch running perpendicular to the crack?  And are there "rings" between the adapter and the crack?  Do you know if this shaft was pulled?  That may be your death knell if so....

Yea, I just sent an email to MCA - will see what they say.  I think I'm SOL.  No idea if it's a pull or not, I did find my Paypal payent AUG 2019, definitely bought it in the classifieds.  

 

It definitely looks like rings.  If I didn't know better it looks like it was clamped or crushed by something?  But there is no way that would happen - I'm entirely way too careful.

So inspecting it closer, it definitely could've been a pull.  The ferrule and epoxy are not factory looking...  I'm guessing the heat is what did it?

I'll let someone else answer definitively as to your last question.  I don't think so, but I can't say for sure.  I'm more thinking in terms of how willing they may be to help.  If someone who isn't a clubmaker pulled it, they may not want to do anything.

Not likely.  Heat damage looks different and usually occurs on the part of the tip that's inside the adapter/hosel bore.  It's also generally not so focused in location.

 

Now it could be from the clamp on the shaft extractor being tightened down too much or an extractor not being used and force applied in the wrong way.  But that would have been noticeable when you first got the shaft.  It's not something that would just appear on its own or from normal use.

 

Not an accusation - but just based on appearance it looks a lot like some impact/force occurred there at that spot.  It could be from something like the bag falling over, something falling onto the bag, maybe closing a car trunk down with something on top of the bag or the head jammed against the side of the trunk.  Lots of ways accidental damage can inadvertently happen without it really being considered abuse.  Any guilty looking kids hanging around the house 🙂

I know it sure does look like impact.  I'm 99.8% sure nothing has happened - no kids either!  The bag's been sitting in the garage for like 16 months now.  Maybe it happened back then and I don't remember.  Gah...oh well I guess it doesn't really matter either way
