I think the issue is that his putting game got more and more pressure placed upon it due to his poor ball striking.  Then with all that pressure, he wasn't making as many putts and so the search for a putter fix was started and continues.

That whole project must have been forced on him, can't imagine him initiating that whole process to not play irons that he loves.

Probably could have worked like the P7TW if they had more than 4 staff members.

Rickie has the following, I think if he went on a hot streak contending or winning tournaments the sales would have been very different. But when you are missing cuts and changing the iron set up constantly it's tough to ask such a premium price for a "signature" product.

That and they didn’t make the 3 iron.  For that price it should have been 8 clubs.  My opinion.  
 

id have been fine with them making it a touch longer heel to toe too. But if you’re going to make them true butter knives. You’ve got to have the long iron.  I mean go big or go home.

Agreed! If he were to win the masters like Tiger did relatively soon after making the switch to the P7TW, they would probably fly off the shelf.

I think that is the fact of it. These were developed during a time when his play was tanking. Had he still been relevant it would have been a different story. Or if he put them in and kept them in. But he bounced around and they did stick.

Was there really money in that project for Cobra?  How many of those could they have sold?  Seems a weird angle for a money grab, making irons that almost no one can play.  I don’t know much about such things though so perhaps I’m wrong and it was profitable.

Just because they couldn’t play them doesn’t mean they didn’t buy them. But I agree I don’t think Cobra sold very many sets.

i find it very hard to believe a ball change could affect a professional to the point he cant play or putt anywhere near like he was playing. Back in the old days when there was a a lot of differences in ball composition and technology, we saw how much a ball could affect a player, ie Payne Stewart, Greg Norman, Tom Watson, but the differences now are subtle. Rickie no longer has Butch and he was never the greatest course manager in my golfwrx opinion. I hope he returns to form, he is a fan favorite.

I disagree.  I can name two balls right now that are so different than my preferred ball that it’s incredibly hard to predict what will happen on a chip or iron shot.  And one is the ball Rickie is playing.  It just doesn’t spin enough.  Your draw turns straight , the fade goes straight , and the shortgame shots roll out.    People say “ just aim straight “. Sure. Perfect shots in the middle of the fairway.  But that’s driving range talk.  Not actual golf.  I’d vote for ball being the deal too.  Just look at bubba.  The Volvik ball sent him into a mental breakdown he played so bad.
