Boys I did it, first hole in one, oddly enough on a par 4, how rare are those?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what to be more envious of, hole in one on a par 4 or that fact you hit it 320 yds.  I was expecting the length of the par 4 to be around 260.

Regardless, congrats on your first hole in one.

Congratulations. That's a rare bird indeed.

I've been in a four ball in which one member hit a hole in one on a par four. It was about a 300 yard par four, but very reachable in summer when the fairways were baked (not that that happens every year in an British summer...) as the ground swept down towards the hole for the last hundred yards and the ball would just roll out. However, to actually get on the green required threading the ball through two green side bunkers.

There was a group ahead of us on the green, but the guy didn't think he could reach so he takes his driver --this was in the days of persimmon/laminate woods and wound balls-- and he nails it. The ball flew towards the green, then we saw the guys putting out on the green jump and down. We thought they were upset with us, but it turned out they were enjoying it as well.

Unfortunately for the guy who got his hole in one, it was on the biggest social golf day of the club, and the bar was packed...I think he bought a bottle of whisky and put it on the bar.

Congrats bro!  I've had my drive on a par 4 end up 4 feet from the hole once.  It was playing 350 if I remember right.  I missed the putt for eagle.  But an albatross on a par 4 is probably the most impressive shot/score you can pull off.

A ball holed counts, plays afterwards are irrelevant

Oddly I have a buddy who is a top 5 senior Am, one ace, also on a par 4.  He’s been a +3 forever and plays 200 rounds a year

Unless your club is new, every par 3 on your course has probably had a hole in one. By contrast, you may be the only one there...or one of maybe a single handful of people, that have ever had a hole in one on a par 4. It's that rare. They need to put a plaque on the course or in the clubhouse it's so rare. Congrats!!

I have a trophy sitting here somewhere.  The caddy was one of the witness's to to my first hole in one.  The cc my father is a member at was nice enough to make a trophy for me.  It's a cool reminder to what a lucky break I got that day with the tee shot.  Down hill par 3 that played 170 true yardage but there was head wind.  Pulled out an 8 iron, hit it slightly thin, hit the green bounced twice and rolled out right into the hole.  If it didn't hit the pin it would've been in the back of the green or fringe.

Awesome!!! I was able to witness something similar. Blind shot over a hill and rolls towards the green. A Relative of mine visiting from Florida who plays twice a year. Has a decent game and sure enough it showed on that drive. We were on our way towards the green and a couple with their two kids were yelling that the ball rolled into the hole. Pretty cool to hear but the excitement they showed made our day.

  • 3 weeks later...

That is my only hole-in-one as well. Downhill Par 4, about 320. Hit the pin on the fly and went in. I couldn't see it because there were trees blocking my view but the foursome on the hole adjacent to the hole we were playing saw the pin rattle and started screaming.

Shot 70 that day without a birdie. Had an albatross and an eagled 18, a par 5.

Just last year I came to a par 4 that was dead downwind but still didn't think I had a chance of actually getting there. Pulled driver and just nutted it right down the middle.

I saw it took a huge bounce and it looked like it was going to make it to the green. The group ahead was putting out and suddenly they all started raising there hands and waving at us on the tee box. I thought maybe they were upset.

Turns out my ball hit the pin and settled about 10 inch away from the cup. I approached them on the next tee to apologize and they weren't the least upset, they were stoked to see the shot.

The funny part is apparently they were deciding whether or not to just kick it in and tell me I had an ace. I laughed and said I was pissed they didn't do that because I would have never known the difference, and drinks would be on me at the 19th.

25 ish years ago I was witness to an ace on a par 4.

Short dog leg right, easy to cut the corner over the trees and if you do, its 200 to the green.

My buddy hits a terrible shot over the corner.  Way too far right. We hear his ball bouncing off trees.  Get to the green, hes looking around under the trees for his ball.    I chip up, hes still looking.  I walk over to mark my ball, and I see his in the hole.

I vividly remember thinking to myself WTF ?

but that's golf.  It counts.

It's almost funny how many aces are made that way, with less than ideal shots.  🙂
