Headed to Scottsdale 5/23-5/29 - need advice on where to stay/play

As the title says headed out in two weeks w wife who is a golfer. Debating between staying at the Boulders, Phoenician or Valley Ho?  I’ve ruled out 4 Seasons due to price and Kierland because it seems to be more family oriented w a waterpark.

Curious about any recent reports on Boulders or Phoenician lodging and course conditions. I’ve read some not good reviews lately that refer to quality of service, rodent issues, etc…

Wondering if we might be better off staying at Valley Ho (which seems to have supremely great reviews for service and is much cheaper) and just picking courses to play a la carte?

Hmmm...any reason you are choosing this locale and these places?

To your immediate question:  I, would choose, The Valley Ho as a good choice - and play golf where you want to play.  The courses at both are blah, Boulders is far off from anything, Pho is meh.

Now if I was going to stay somewhere here, I would choose Wildhorse Pass Sheraton in a heartbeat over any of those mentioned.  You then have Whirlwind courses, Southern Dunes, and then can travel to others if you want to get them in.

Although if you need/want nightlife, then  back to Valley Ho.

But there are other options that are good.....do you have some parameters of what you want?

Parameters:

1) Low key vacay w golf-addicted wife whose last golf trip was to the Lodge at Sea Island

2) Scottsdale because we haven’t been to AZ in years and want to see something new.

3) 4.5-5 star accommodations that are well maintained with excellent service

4) Nightlife is not irrelevant but not a focus - we may grab dinner and a drink but that’s about the extent of it

Gotcha..my rec is Wildhorse Pass Sheraton.  The best restaurant in the southwest, plus multiple other good places in the area, shopping, casino, golf, easy access (a small drive) to plenty of places (right off the 10).

But - Valley Ho is good too....but it is not 4.5+.   Andaz or Fairmont may be better.

An underrated option is to stay at Mountain Shadows resort - you have the par 3 course there, both Camelback courses, hiking, and of course a short Lyft to Scottsdale stuff.  Easy to get to other courses.

Suggestions:  Citizen Public, Monarch, Sel, Virtu

Have fun.

The Sanctuary sounds like it would fit the bill.  One of the nicest resorts in the valley, centrally located, sitting on the back side of Camelback mountain.  Elements is a very cool setting for a great restaurant with a notable chef.  Plus you are smack in the middle of Paradise Valley/Arcadia which is where many of the best restaurants are.

Outside of Camelback Ambiente and Mountain Shadows, The Sanctuary isn't really centrally located to golf, however, most of the big name public courses are within 35 minutes from the hotel (Wekopa, Troon, Grayhawk, TPC).

That's where I would look.

For golf depending on how many days and how many rounds per day you  are looking at.  If you stay at Wild Horse 36 there for ease of use is good.  Both courses are well above average but not top tier, but well worth playing if you are on site.  The other genius here is that Southern Dunes is much closer than it would otherwise be.  You are about a half hour out, most other locations put you at an hour.  Again I would recommend 36 there.  Most of my friends who travel in to play golf enjoy the second time around even more.  We Ko Pa Saguaro  can be another golf day.  if you want 36 play Cholla as well.  Has more forced shots than Saguaro, but still in the much better than average category.  Other courses to consider are Troon North and Grayhawk.
