Golf club options near West Hartford

Moving to Farmington CT in the next month and looking for club options.  Some considerations will be turning 40 this summer, 4 kids ranging from 6 - 14, all play golf somewhat, but pool, tennis and friends are an important piece as well.  The company I work for is willing to sponsor the initiation and dues.  I play off 7~ and try to get out 2 or 3 times a month to play and a couple times a week to practice.  Would be interested in a weekly game so locating a likely group would be ideal.  

 

Convenience is a big factor, so being able to get a time to play without a lot of notice or restrictions is ideal.  

 

I have looked at a couple of clubs so far, but interested in advice or experience from anyone willing to share.  Clubs considered so far include Avon Golf Club and Farmington Country Club.

 

Specifically interested in any opinions on The Golf Club of Hartford.

Farmington is a very nice old school course. They have done a lot of work recently taking it back to its original design. There is a good group of players there but it is a golf only facility besides a couple of pickleball courts that seem to only be used in the winter. Ive never played Avon personally but talking to other players the layout is not the best, but the condition is normally good. But its 27 holes and has tennis and a pool.  Another one to consider is Wampanoag in West Hartford. They have a pool but no tennis. Hartford would be the most expensive of the bunch.  Hartford has everything your looking for. Im playing it in a few weeks in the State Am so I can comment more on the course then. Shuttle Meadow in Kensington is also a good option.

@metsmc Thanks for the reply; I was beginning to worry I was the only person who played golf in Connecticut.  Let me know what you think of Hartford and good luck in the state am.  I have inquired at Wampanoag, Farmington, Avon and Hartford golf club.  I need to make a decision in the next couple of months to get in before I turn 40 and take advantage of reduced initiation.

but see if you can get a recommendation from someone at your job. My wife worked at Ridgewood in Danbury for a few years. She says there was lots of people from that area who going because local clubs required sponsorships

I have a sponsor for Hartford Golf Club. May go that route. Going to take the plunge soon.

I'm excited to play out there later this season, have not yet gotten the chance. Apparently our pro knows the pro over there though, so maybe the week of our clubs Member Guest (which I didn't get into, RIP)
